Thank you so much to parents and members of our community for supporting our summer events so brilliantly.
Our parents group worked hard with school staff to prepare for the summer fair. It was incredibly well attended and it was a real pleasure to see so many parents/carers and members of our local community. It has also been lovely to have so many parents, carers and members of our local community in school enjoying the many summer term performances. Park Street most definitely has talent the children's acting, singing, dancing and playing has been phenomenal. Despite the weather proving particularly challenging over the last week or so it has been lovely to see parents enjoying our class sports events.

Mr Holmes and Mrs Longden were lucky enough to be invited to Barnsley Muslim Centre for a community Iftar. It was really special occasion where people of all faiths within the local community came together to break the fast and share a lovely meal together. It was a fantastic way to learn more about Islam, Ramadan and Eid. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Muslim members of our community, Imam and of course the wonderful Chavan family for the invite and making us feel so very welcome.
Year 6 have been exploring the work of Shakespeare in preparation for National Shakespeare week. Wombwell Park Street has been lucky enough to be part of the Shakespeare's Birthplace Trust Yorkshire hub, We have had the opportunity to work with other professionals and creative partners. Pupils worked with Devika Rao a traditional Indian dancer to explore the themes of power, ambition and murder. They integrated traditional Indian dance moves into choreographed pieces retelling the story of Macbeth. Pupils are looking forward to developing their dances further to build up to performances to share.
Huge congratulations Y6 on a hugely successful trip to Robinwood. You faced your fears, reached your targets, worked together as a team and developed many new skills. You are amazing! This week has been Children's mental health week. Park Street take mental health very seriously, we want the best for our children. So of course we focused on this. The focus we had was 'making connections' throughout the school we talked about all of the connections that we have with our family, friends, places, activities, things and beliefs. As always fantastic ideas were made by our wonderful Park Street children. We then got to work on each making a paperchain link with all of the things on it we feel we have strong connections with and like/love the most. All the paperchains from school will be put together and displayed. We are all here to support each other at Park Street.
Today we sent Team AF and LL on their way to Robinwood (https://www.robinwood.co.uk/). We all hope you have an incredible adventure and continue to grow into the amazing individuals that you are! We can't wait to see how confident and unified you all become from this amazing experience!
Today Park Street had another visit from Reverend John and Lay Minister Stephanie Peake from St Mary's Church. Both read their favourite parts from the bible to our reception children and explained they meant a lot and were very special to them.
The Rainbows were very lucky to each be presented with a children's copy of the bible to keep at home and read with their family. During their visit Team CW sung "He's got the Whole World" which they have been practising. Reverend John was very impressed! On the 4th February the world remembered Rosa Parks. Park Street have been investigating Rosa Parks. The Year ones couldn’t understand why this incredible woman was arrested for sitting on a bus! Team CH watched a video that helped them understand a little bit more; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRJlZ_QVb4E. Team CH, thought of some brilliant questions that we would like to ask Rosa Parks. We really think Rosa Parks has made such a difference to the whole world and to life in Wombwell.
What do you think Wombwell would have been like if Rosa Parks never existed? Team AC have been making a robot for an Eco competition. They have made him out of boxes and things the children brought in from home, helping to reuse and recycle. Rex the robot can also help us to recycle things too - glass, plastic, paper and even batteries.
We are so proud of how our robot turned out and we have become very fond of having him in our class. We cannot wait to help keep Wombwell safe and clean! We aim to make a difference to the lives of all children, not just those who live in our community! Thank you to staff and parents for helping to raise money for such an incredible charity. PROUD to be a Park Streeter.
