Team CB have been working really hard to understand the chronology through the ages. The class have explored where on a time line each Era comes, as well as working hard to understand how a timeline is constructed. We have looked at the key terminology of BC and AD and its relevance to other historical periods. Once the chronology of these Eras was clear, we have explored carefully the three time periods within the Stone Age; the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. The class understand the varying durations of these time periods as well as that a Tsunami and the melting of the Ice Caps sparked the end of the Stone Age. We have specifically explored the tools used within the time and created our own adverts to persuade early humans to purchase one! The class are developing a really thorough understanding of these time periods and we can’t wait to explore further!

Throughout Spring 1, Team LF have focussed on World War One. We started our history unit by focussing on the outbreak of war and the countries involved. We looked at maps in order to locate these countries, which enabled us to incorporate some of geography skills too. Afterwards, we learnt about the role of the British Empire in 1914 and this further developed our understanding as to why so many other countries became involved in the war due to their connections with Britain. Following on, we looked at the use of propaganda in recruitment and the job roles within the war. Our most recent lessons have focussed on the frontline and the trenches. Whilst we will be predominantly learning about the Ancient Greeks next half term, there are still elements of WW1 that we will be learning about and of course, we will also be hosting our WW1 Day with Mr Fidment.
Team LL and AF have thoroughly enjoyed their history work this term. We have been finding out all about the Ancient Egyptians. We have looked at the role of archaeologists and explored the information that historical sources can provide. We have applied our map skills to find Egypt on a map and worked out when the Ancient Egyptians were around compared to other historical areas we have covered. So far we have explored, religion, the structure of society, everyday life and some of the incredible innovations from the time.
At Wombwell Park Street we are very passionate about teaching history and enjoy learning about a wide variety of important and interesting eras and events that help us understand how the world before us shaped who we are today.
One area that we would love to promote is our local area! We believe it is really important for children to learn about our local area and any significant events or people so...........we would like your help! We have a thoroughly exciting history curriculum but would like to enhance it with information about any people or events that are linked to Park Street's families! If you have any interesting information about family members that made a significant impact to our local area or have been part of a significant event in the past then we would LOVE to know so we can teach it within our curriculum and add it to our timeline! If you have any information you would be willing to share with us please contact Miss Clementson or Mrs Allen. We can't wait to hear about your amazing families! Since returning to school in September following partial school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been working hard to identify the areas of learning individual pupils may need to catch up on. As always, we are making core subjects the priority - particularly the basic skills of numeracy and literacy. However here at Wombwell Park Street, we are passionate about our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum offer and feel now more than ever pupils need the opportunity to engage in a wide range of learning opportunities. Children will be accessing the full range of curriculum subjects this year. If you wish to discuss our current curriculum provision further do not hesitate to contact school and Mrs Longden Deputy Head can provide further information. Should you need any further information relating to provision in History, Miss Clementson and Mrs Allen will be happy to answer any questions.
This Friday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE day, communities are holding a "stay at home VE day street party."
The details of the event are below. I hope you can join in! Every year on VE day the country comes together to celebrate "Victory in Europe" when the Second World War ended in Europe. There are lots of programmes and resources online to learn lots more about this. The National Museum of the Royal Navy is holding a virtual VE day and hosting a free online festival including a swing dance class, reenactors sharing stories and from the fighting and the Home Front and a sing-a-long concert. The spirit and enthusiasm of that time is exactly what we need and are portraying now in this difficult time, so please join in and click on the link below! https://www.nmrn.org.uk/virtual-ve-day-75-festival This has become a unique time in history and to remember this time I have attached a workbook to make a "time capsule". There are pages to add information about you and your family, your community and other events and interests. I hope you take some time to complete some or all of this so you can look back at it in years to come.
