In our maths learning, the children have been focussing upon place value knowledge, reading and writing numbers, identifying the value of digits, comparing and ordering numbers, and counting in powers of 10.

We focussed on our place value knowledge, reading and writing numbers, identifying the value of digits, comparing and ordering numbers, and counting in powers of 10. We also started our three week times table challenge and have shown great improvement already.
We have loved being up an active in our counting! Practicing ordinal counting each day has really helped us in becoming familiar with the flow, sound and sequence of numbers
Using one hundred squares we have become familiar in counting forwards and backwards from any number between 1 and 100. Each time we practice counting with an ordinal purpose we become more confident in recognising number position. As well as practicing our ordinal counting skills we have been counting for a cardinal purpose. We really enjoyed discovering how many of somethings are in the tray and writing the digits to represent that number. Today, Mrs Firth and Mrs Bamforth met with our Maths school governor (Rebecca Riley) to update her on everything that has been happening with the subject over the past term. They talked about the following things:
Mrs Riley was very complimentary and passed on some lovely messages from parents/carers also. A huge well done to all of our Y4 children on your MTC results. We are so incredibly proud of you all!
Over the past two weeks, our Year 4 children have worked exceptionally hard when sitting their Multiplication Test Check. We would like to say a huge well done to them all for their commitment to learning their times tables throughout the year and for working incredibly hard the past couple of weeks when completing their tests. You should all be proud of yourselves - we certainly are!
A huge thank you to Mrs Nowshirvani (Y2 teacher at Wellgate Primary) who delivered a wonderful 'Mastering Number' session for Mrs Lawson, Mrs Firth and Mrs Bamforth to observe. The teaching was brilliant, the children were amazing and the Park Street staff had a great time learning from you. Thank you!
Mrs Firth and Mrs Bamforth met with Mrs Knott today, in order to review the task design we use in school. It was a very productive meeting and going forward, Mrs Firth and Mrs Bamforth will be trialling some new work based tasks with their classes before any changes are made across all classes.
Here's an example of what the new task design looks like: Each Thursday, our Y6 students are invited to attend afterschool Maths revision sessions in preparation for SATs. The recent focus has been geometry.
Yesterday morning, Mrs Firth spent her first day back from maternity leave dipping in and out of Maths lessons. She said it was lovely to see the children engaged in their learning, correctly using manipulatives, using key mathematical vocabulary and making use of stem sentences, modelled by the staff in class. Well done Team Park Street!
