.Pupils were lucky enough to enjoy a musical performance by Music Hub staff. Children learnt about different instruments and the instrument families they belonged to. We explored music from different places and times and pupils thoroughly enjoyed sharing their thoughts and opinions. Conversation carried on back in classrooms and inspired pupils to explore, share and perform some of their own favourites

Well done to all the class teams for producing such amazing musical pieces. Your singing, playing and Makaton signing were absolutely amazing. What a talented bunch you are. Please check out all the performances on our schools You Tube channel.
Year 3 have been exploring the song Let your Spirit Fly by Joanna Mangona. They have had the opportunity to listen and appraise the song, recognising the type of music it is and instruments involved. They have also sang in unison whilst improvising and playing the glockenspiel in
instrumentals. Year 3 are continuing their learning of the glockenspiel this half term as they learn to play different keys. Key Stage 2 pupils loved the fantastic Ikonjane performance. The story was inspired by the journey of migrating swallows and touched on a range of cultural themes. The pupils also got to make their own music in a follow up workshop. During the meet the makers film pupils were made aware of the wide range of artistic professionals involved in the project and had the opportunity to explore a range of artistic careers to aspire to later in life.
Year 6 have been exploring the song HAPPY by Pharrell Williams they have had the opportunity to play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts, and have built up a performance piece including first vocal, second vocal and bridging sections.
They have continued to explore music in context and the genre of soul and disco music. We are hoping to broaden our offer of musical instrument tuition. How would you like to try guitar or a woodwind instrument? Check out the information below.
Team LL, AF and LG have been lucky enough to be engaging in workshops organised by Barnsley Youth Choir and led by Luke Mathers. During the workshops we have explored different genres of music and dynamics, control, rhythm and pitch. Children have had the opportunity to learn and perform a range of songs. Most importantly it has been lots of fun.
Since returning to school in September following partial school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been working hard to identify the areas of learning individual pupils may need to catch up on. As always, we are making core subjects the priority - particularly the basic skills of numeracy and literacy. However here at Wombwell Park Street, we are passionate about our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum offer and feel now more than ever pupils need the opportunity to engage in a wide range of learning opportunities. Children will be accessing the full range of curriculum subjects this year. If you wish to discuss our current curriculum provision further do not hesitate to contact school and Mrs Longden Deputy Head can provide further information. Should you need any further information relating to provision in Music, Miss Taylor and Mrs Longden will be happy to answer any questions.
We are forever sharing learning resources on our Twitter page @WombwellParkSt
