A HUGE well done to our new Playground Leaders this week, who have excelled in their new role. They have set up games incredibly efficiently and have taken god care of our younger children. We were really impressed - keep it up! So happy to see responsible children working hard for the benefit of others!

This week in our cultural assembly, children learnt about Emmeline Pankhurst. They learnt about her early life and what influenced her to think and act the way she did. They learnt about her actions and her fight for justice, learnt about the consequences of her actions and how she influenced the thoughts of others. The children shared their own views on Emmeline's thoughts and watched a video to learn more.
Thank you to our Assembly Reporters for their summary report! I am very pleased to announce that the popular Feel Good Fridays will continue this academic year.
Every other Friday, children and staff are invited in to school in their sporty gear, to take part in an extra physical activity to encourage a better physical and mental health. This may be a walk, a competitive game, a run or another creative idea which our children may want to try! The dates for this term are as follows: September 9th and 23rd October 7th and 21st (and 21st will also be ‘Wear it Red’ day to stamp out racism, as part of Diversity and Inclusion WB 17.10.22) November 4th and 18th December 2nd and 16th A huge well done to our newly formed Parental Group who had amazing success in the summer term. They managed to make a whopping £1954.14 from the summer fair, which they organised! This is such a wonderful amount to have raised and will be so valuable to us this year. We will of course spend the money on resources for the children - watch out for information in Newsletters!
THANK YOU to the parents for organising it and also to the generosity of our other parents on the day. It has been amazing to see all of our children's smiley faces on the drive each morning, in this first week back to the 2022-23 academic year! Our new starters are wonderful children and every one of them is a fantastic addition to our friendly TEAM, here at Park Street.
We look forward to working with families this year to ensure we have a great year! Over the next few weeks, we are supporting our school catering team with the ‘Big Grow initiative’. This starts on the 9th May and runs until the 20th May. Throughout the fortnight, they will serve a different guest salad bar dish each day.
There will also be some virtual events for classes to participate in as well the opportunity for classes to plant seed and grow salad ingredients. Keeping on the theme of gardening. Next week is ‘National Gardening Week’ and to help promote this week and the wellbeing that outdoors and nature provides we held a Wear it Green Day on Friday 6th May. This was also the same day as our usual Feel Good Friday, So on this day children came to school wearing green or garden inspired clothes for a donation of £1, which will go towards planting around the school environment and class planting activities. National Gardening week are also running a competition to win funding worth £700 as well as vouchers for school garden development. In order to be in with a chance of wining schools need to grow as many grass caterpillars as they can. The caterpillars must be decorated, at least 15cm long and must have sprouted grass. School can provide grass seed, but we will require each class to collect enough pairs of tights to enable the making of the caterpillars. Alternatively, you can make your caterpillar at home and then bring it to school to enter in the competition. Good luck Park Street! So fantastic to work as a team in an attempt to win the funding! Go for it and let's make our environment the best it can be! Thank you for organising Mrs Watson and Mrs Stevens! I was very proud to watch our KS2 Eco-Reps, led by Miss Clementson, walk off in to the distance to help tidy up Park Street in Wombwell this last week! Twiggs came to school and along with Mrs Chavan, our School Governor, they litter picked all afternoon long! Twiggs were extremely grateful for all of their support and both Miss Clementson and Mrs Chavan said that the Eco-Reps represented school brilliantly, wearing their Park Street badge with pride! They all got stuck in to collecting rubbish and are eager to do it again! Thank you and well done for helping our local community...As a walker in the local area myself, I am always so grateful to the volunteers in Wombwell that help tidy our environment up! THANK YOU ECO-REPS! A huge thank you to Miss Clementson and Mrs Chavan for organising!
We were very proud and privileged to welcome the Mayor of Barnsley to Park Street this Friday afternoon! She visited to hand out 10 certificates for our Year 6 children, who were successful with their COVID memorial art work! 6 of the 10 children even managed to get their art work imprinted on to the sculpture which stands near the Glassworks in Barnsley town centre. The art work competition asked them to portray what a 'key worker' had meant to them during the pandemic. The art work was once again top quality, thanks to the careful guidance of one of our Art Leaders in school, Mrs Fitchett (who is an artist in her own right!). Well done Year 6s, an achievement to be incredibly proud of.
The Mayor of Barnsley thought the school was a lovely, welcoming and bright environment to learn and was impressed with the children's attentive natures - what a compliment Team Park Street! Park Street's 'special jobs' have once again started this March in school, following a period of time where the school had to ensure the safety of children and staff and not allow the children to mix fully, due to COVID-19. We are now thrilled that we have the confidence to reintroduce these, for the children to continue to have that sense of responsibility and ownership. These really do encourage the children to be active citizens! Such jobs include:
Play ground Leaders - these children buddy up with SMSAs and support younger children in school by encouraging them to play positively with the equipment. Eco-Reps - these children look after the school environment and will be doing regular litter picks in the locality! School Council Reps - these will meet Miss Baxter and Mrs Firth on a regular basis and are the pupil voice for the school. They already have lots of fantastic ideas to further improve our lovely school! Art Council Reps - these meet with Mrs Longden and Mrs Fitchett to look at ways in which our curriculum can be further enriched by Art and performance opportunities. Digital Leaders - these work with Mrs Firth and Mr Fidment to ensure that the Computing equipment is well looked after and organise the i-pads for use through school. Junior Reader Leaders - these work with Miss Baxter to look at ways in which they can encourage even more of a love of reading in children than we already have! Prefects and Head boy / girl - these Y6 children are known as prefects because of their incredibly positive behaviour over their years at Park Street! They set the example for others to follow, show people around school and model outstanding attitudes towards the entire school community. They are practically perfect in every way! Good luck with your 'special jobs' Park Street and well done on being elected by the staff and children of Park Street...what an honour! The children and staff had an amazing day! We enjoyed lots of fun activities including:
In total we managed to raise a tremendous: £303.04 Thank you and well done Team Park Street! |
