Yesterday, Team CC worked with hoops in their PE lesson. We explored different games with this piece of equipment. I was really impressed with the listening skills that all of the pupils highlighted. The pupils showed a great attitude to want to learn.
They took on every instruction that was given to them. The children worked extremely hard, we didn't want the lesson to end. After the lesson, I explained to the children how important their PE lessons are for both their physical and mental health. Amazing Team CC, keep up the hard work. Mr Smith

Dear Parent/Carer,
PE is a statutory part of the curriculum and children are entitled to 2 hours of PE each week from KS1 upwards. We have noticed that throughout school there are some children who are regularly forgetting their PE kits and this is having a detrimental effect on their learning as it may be that children cannot participate without the correct clothing. It is compulsory that children are required to have their PE kit in school. Our uniform policy states that: ‘The school has adopted the following uniform for PE lessons:
We have numerous children throughout school who are turning up to their PE lesson in their school shoes. This is a serious health and safety risk and can result in serious slips, trips and falls. It is part of the school’s uniform policy, that every pupil should be fully equipped with the required PE kit for every lesson. Also, earrings must be able to be removed by the pupil prior to them participating in PE lessons, or in any other sporting activity. This is monitored; therefore if a pupil does not have the required kit or cannot remove earrings, then this will result in an initial verbal reminder to the child, followed by a letter to parents/carers if the reminder proves to be unsuccessful. We really appreciate those who do bring their PE kits to school religiously and want to make sure that this does not go unnoticed, therefore children who bring their PE kits every week will be rewarded with Dojo Points and will be invited to a sporting morning with Mr Smith at the end of the school year. It is recommended that PE kits are brought to school on a Monday and left until Friday in case hall slots are changed or there are extra sporting activities taking place that week. With sporting events coming up in the next term, it is essential that all our pupils have the right kit. Spare kit If you have any spare PE kit, we would be grateful if people could donate, so that we have some spare kit for children to use if they forget their own. This is a great way to ensure that all children are able to access their learning and other events we provide. Please leave it at School Reception for Mr Smith. Thank you for your support and understanding. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact school. Mr Smith (Sports Coach) and Miss Garratt (PE Leader) This half term, we have watched videos of Scottish dancing and listened to traditional Scottish music. We compared this to Irish dance and music, and discussed the similarities and differences. We thought carefully about the position of our arms and feet when performing our routine.
Team CB had the opportunity to go out onto the sports courts and participate in a field hockey lesson. We began with holding the stick correctly and then moved onto dribbling. Everyone kept the ball really close to their stick which highlights they have good control over the ball.
Following on from this, we moved onto working in pairs, passing the ball to each other using a good technique. The children soon realised how important it is to stop the ball. The pupils noticed that putting the handle fully on the floor ensured the ball could not get under the stick. Well done Team CB on a fabulous hockey lesson, it was a pleasure to coach the session. Mr Smith During Autumn 2, the children listened to music by the composer Vivaldi and used movement and dance to create a sense of Autumn Leaves falling from the trees. We discussed musical terms such as ‘tempo’ and ‘mood’ in order to help them listen with purpose and feel the music.
Near Bonfire night we worked as a class to create a bonfire and firework dance using Katy Perry's, Firework song. The children we able to perform for each other and to give praise to each other after the performance or offer ways in which a performance could be improved. Yesterday, Year 1/2 SA participated in a fitness circuit outside. Some of the stations included ladders, hurdles and sprinting. The attitude of every single pupil was amazing. They worked so hard individually and collectively within their groups. After the children had worked for a minute and fifteen seconds on each station, they moved around in their groups to the next activity. Lots of team work and communication skills were used!
After the circuit we discussed as a whole group, what was happening to our body during exercise, then what happened to our body after we had finished. Some of the answers were "Our hearts beat faster when we are exercising, then it starts to slow down after we have finished". Another pupil said "When we are exercising, our face becomes more red!" Well done Year 1/2. Mr Smith Just Dance Club is underway for the final time this term. Thank you to all the children who have been committed to attending the club for the past few weeks.
If you would like to sign up next term, then look out for our letter which will be sent out during the first week of Spring 1. Miss Garratt and Mr Smith attended a meeting today, alongside the PE coordinators from High View. They met with staff from Barnsley College to discuss sporting trips for the Spring Term. We have some really exiting events coming up so keep your eye out for the trials Park Street.
This term we are exploring dance from countries in the UK. This half term, we began by watching videos of Irish dancing and listened to the traditional music. When dancing, we thought carefully about our posture and position of our arms. We choreographed and performed a short routine, which we videoed to share with others.
The children worked on building ‘team spirit’ and the skill of ‘working together’ during the first half term. We played games, which focused on their collaboration, listening skills and ability to be able to follow simple rules and instructions.
The children enjoyed learning how to do a relay race and we had fun inventing new relays to work new skills and to have fun! |
