At Wombwell Park Street Primary School, we are huge advocates of story time and the need for this to run right from Early Years to Year 6. Story time gives children the chance to be read to effectively, modelling how reading should sound. It also allows children to be transported to a place of awe and wonder where they can relish in the stories as they unfold. In all classes, books are read to the class at the end of each school day for a variety of different reasons. Why not check out what classes are currently reading at the end of the day and why?

Part of working hard to develop a love of reading in children at Park Street involves making sure the opportunities we create for children to read, are ones where they will WANT to sit down and enjoy a good book. As such, we have been working hard to update our reading corners in the classroom.
We have included lots of new books, with a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We have also, ensured that the area is inviting and comfy, and linked to a relevant author - where children can learn lots of interesting information about the author who wrote the books they so enjoy. Why not check out some of our reading areas through school below? Today was an exciting day through school for our Key Stage 2 Junior Reader Leaders as they attended their first meeting linked to developing the school's love of reading.
Our Junior Reader Leaders were set up in the Spring of 2019 with the intention of giving our children more input and involvement into our reading offer at Wombwell Park Street. The children have been greatly responsive to the challenge and I thoroughly look forward to working with them over the course of this academic year. Should you wish to find out more about what we have been up to, check out our Junior Reader Leader page using the link below. https://www.wombwellparkstreet.co.uk/junior-reader-leaders.html Following from our last post, why not look at some of our lovely library areas which we are working hard to make exciting, engaging and purposeful for our young readers!
What an afternoon of celebrating Park Street's new and improved library area. After working away through the Summer and the first few weeks of this academic year, our new library area is now complete! We have overhauled the way it looks to help all our young readers make the most of this lovely resource centre. Library books have been grouped according to topics taught, curriculum baskets have been developed so each class has a basket for books which are age appropriate and relevant to their History, Geography and Science topics, as well as home readers being redistributed into age appropriate books. In addition to this, we have also purchased more reading material to excite and engage our children and provided each class with an "acclaimed author" they will study later in the year. If you want more information, why not read the handout attached below? ![]()
