We have certainly had an incredibly creative day in year 4 and 5! We researched souvenirs which people buy from the seaside, look at the packaging they came in.
We did this to help inform us and identify the appropriate packaging for each souvenir. We then evaluated which one matched our criteria, which tools we would need that fit the purpose of our design. Finally, we created our own souvenir boxes using coloured card we had chosen. We are rather proud of our designs! What do you think? Today we have explored how castle have developed and the reasons behind their development.
We found this link very useful - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXXDThkJ3Ew Team JD, DB and HG have all been working on creating detailed, appealing European Landmarks in their most recent Art topic.
Once pupils had created these, alongside their research into key European landmarks, they constructed a simple circuit containing wires, batteries, switches and bulbs. The purpose of this project was to learn how to create a simple circuit to provide a light source for the landmark they had chosen. The final products that the children created were amazing and fit-for-purpose, as you can see below! The landmarks ranged from close-to-home such as Big Ben, all the way to The Parthenon in Greece! Our European topic is coming to an end, as we quickly approach the Christmas holidays. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about this vast continent, especially discovering the countries that are part of Europe. In Team DB, JD and HG, the children have been learning about traditional foods from various countries in Europe, and what better way to experience this, than to take part in a food tasting session! The children had the opportunity to taste traditional foods from Italy, Turkey, Spain, France, and Belgium, learning how different dishes were made and the nutritional values of each unique cuisine! A huge thank you to Mr Akyel, who created a traditional Turkey dish that we were able to share with all the staff at Park Street! Check out our learning journey, as the children experienced the different flavours presented to them. Team AF and Team LL have been working incredibly hard in their most recent design and technology project; investigating, designing, making and evaluating disaster warning systems on a small scale.
The purpose of this project was to create an early warning system to alert people to an earthquake. Each project had to include a circuit, the use of a switch and be able to be used in a house. Year 6 researched what type of disasters these systems could be used for in real-life situations and how they could make the most effective, successful warning equipment. Here are some of the designs! A massive well done, Year 6! Team JD have been working hard to research their chosen European landmark. We have focussed on discovering where, when, how and why the landmarks were built, as well as what made them so famous and successful.
We cannot wait to begin creating these later in the Autumn Term! During the Autumn term, Team JD will be designing, making and evaluating European landmarks.
Once we have researched the wonderful, diverse landmarks from around our continent, our final product will incorporate basic circuits that ultimately 'light-up' the models. This will help Team JD develop not only their engineering skills but their knowledge of circuits. I cannot wait to see what Team JD create! Team CB have used their DT sessions this summer term to design, make and evaluate Roman Chariots.
This links nicely with our Summer Term topic and the children have worked hard to create functional, appealing chariots which we have proudly presented under the topic board, in our classroom. Fit for a Roman Soldier! |
