As part of our maths topic ‘Park Street Bakery’ we completed a range of maths based activities exploring recipes for cupcakes. This included working out the cost of ingredients, comparing special offers and also looking at ration and proportion to adapt the recipe for different quantities.
THE DT BIT We adapted the original recipe in order to make 3 cupcakes. We chose someone to make the cupcakes for. We looked at possible extra flavours, ingredients and decorations. Once we had chosen we adapted the original recipe to include them. We then followed our adapted recipes to weigh out ingredients, mix the batter add the extra ingredients, bake and decorate our cupcakes. Then came the fun part we got to taste the cupcakes and evaluated the finished produce. We discussed with a partner what worked well and what could have been improved.

Since returning to school in September following partial school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been working hard to identify the areas of learning individual pupils may need to catch up on. As always, we are making core subjects the priority - particularly the basic skills of numeracy and literacy. However here at Wombwell Park Street, we are passionate about our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum offer and feel now more than ever pupils need the opportunity to engage in a wide range of learning opportunities. Children will be accessing the full range of curriculum subjects this year. During the autumn and spring term subject leaders will be prioritising the key learning objectives and vocabulary to be covered in each subject. Class teachers will plan a range of integrated projects and lessons to ensure that all subjects are covered each term although there may be some reduction in frequency and objectives in the foundation subjects to allow pupils to catch up missed learning in the core subjects. By no later than summer term 2021 we are planning to be teaching the full range of subjects in their entirety as detailed in our comprehensive subject overviews. If you wish to discuss our current curriculum provision further do not hesitate to contact school and Mrs Longden Deputy Head can provide further information. Should you need any further information relating to provision in Design and Technology, Miss Taylor and Mrs Longden will be happy to answer any questions.

Check it out for some fantastic D&T activities, as well as activities for other subject areas. https://twitter.com/WombwellParkSt Pupils were given a set of design criteria and then tasked with an exciting engineering project. In teams they made, designed and evaluated a range of bridges and structures. They developed prototypes before setting to work on their final designs. Collaboratively they evaluated their work and the work of others making suggestions about how to improve the designs.
Team CB enjoyed following and adapting pizza recipes during their technology work linked to their topic on exploring Europe. I've been told by the pupils that tasting and evaluating was the best bit. Yum!
Team JF have been investigating structures; exploring which shapes create a sturdy design. The class have been researching Roundhouses and making their own structures, evaluating these and making improvements. The class also enjoyed designing untuned percussion instruments.
