We had a superb fire drill practice in school today! Our school team did a fantastic job - we managed to evacuate the entire school in 1 minute and 46 seconds! The children were silent and so sensible as they took the drill very seriously. Team CB and Team JF were our winners and will enjoy some extra /Incredible Me!' time for their fantastic efforts.
A huge well done too to our younger Nursery and Reception children in school, as it was their first ever fire drill! They did brilliantly and were not phased at all! Well done Team Park Street!

Today in school we have held an 'Online Safety' assembly, where children have been spoken to about the importance of keeping safe online. We discussed the importance of keeping personal information to yourself and always speaking to an adult if you feel a situation is not appropriate. We also discussed how we can block people if they do or say unkind things online. We stressed the importance of not being on apps and games which we shouldn't be due to age restraints and about following the law of the land.
We also encouraged the children to always feel comfortable in school and let a member of staff know if they feel unsafe - all of the children nodded and said they feel very safe in school. They all have a hand on their classroom door, where they have identified 5 people in school that they would go to if they needed help and support. Mrs Hitchens has asked me to pass on a message about how the Salvation Army are going to be supporting families of Park Street. Their support includes the storage of school uniform and a swap shop. Here are a few details passed on from Mrs Hitchens:
Team EO are having a fantastic morning! Miss Overton has organised for the children to enjoy a fabulous learning experience with a visiting Ambulance! The children are having so much fun learning about what an Ambulance does and how it helps people. They have had lots of hands-on fun, sitting in the driver's seat, honking the horn and setting the sirens off, as well as laying on the stretcher and having a go in the wheel chair. I am sure our Diana would make an outstanding Ambulance driver when she is older and Jack would be a very helpful and caring Ambulance person.
Thank you to Miss Overton for organising this enjoyable event as part of the 'All About Me' theme for this half term - inspiring the children from the very start! Today Mrs Longden has launched learning in assembly relating to our Diversity Week, this next week. The school discussed what diversity is and why it is so important to celebrate uniqueness and differences. We look forward to celebrating it further next week!
A BIG well done to Team CH and Team AF for their strong attendance rates last week!
Team CH - 99.3% Team DB - 99.6% Whole school - 94.4% Remember our target is 97% - let's go for it this week Park Street! This week in assemblies we have had a focus on Poetry, to help celebrate National Poetry Day today.
The children have enjoyed listening to lots of poems about the environment, which was the focus for the Poetry Day this year. KS2 enjoyed listening to poems by Grace Nichols, including her poem about JMW Turner's painting called Snow Storm - Steam-boat off a Harbour's Mouth. We discussed the use of language - our favourite lines were 'The wildness of the whirlwind, The horses foaming at my feet'. Year 6 loved to hear this as this is the Artist they are studying at the moment. Our Year 3s are very excited as today we have members of the South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue |Department coming in to school to meet Year 3 and discuss the importance of fire safety. They are looking forward to learning new information and learning about what to do in the event of a fire. We can't wait for them to share their new knowledge in Golden Book assembly with the rest of the TEAM!
Thank you to those mums, dads, grandmas, grandads, siblings and family members who have taken the time to come in to school and read with their children! It was lovely to see so many adults enjoying special time with their children, reading in school.
The children absolutely love to see your happy faces and enjoy sharing their books with you. It really does make a difference - THANK YOU! This week in our cultural significant person study whole school assembly, children learnt about David Attenborough and what a significant person he was. They learnt about his early life living on Campus at a University and how he had so many books to read on animals, in the University library. They learnt about how he worked hard to know more about every animal and spend time with them in the wild. We learnt how much success someone could have for learning more about their hobbies and things that they love
Talk to your child about the importance of having interests and hobbies and finding out more about what we care and believe in. |
