Following the success of last month’s ‘Daily Mile Trial’, we would like to introduce ‘Feel Good Friday’ – alternate Fridays, which will commence from Friday 5th March. Please see the attached file below for a list of this year's dates.

To support with mental health and wellbeing, on Thursday we would like to invite all pupils and staff in school to come in some sort of sportswear. Taking the current weather into consideration and the need for ventilation around school, we would advise that children come dressed appropriately in something warm, for example sports jogging bottoms and a sports jumper. If any children want to attend their Zoom call in sportswear too, then that would be great!
Over the past couple of years, we have tried different ways of getting the daily mile into the school routine – which so far has proved to be a bit tricky. On Thursday this week, we are going to have a trail of how we could run the event. During the afternoon, some year groups will have a go at the daily mile on the school courts, during an allocated time slot. Mr Smith will be marking out the route for the children, the idea being that the children run, jog, walk and keep moving during their allocated time. Staff will be joining in also, encouraging lots of sports discussion and language during the mile. Unfortunately, not every year group will be able to use the school courts. The safety of the children and staff in school is paramount and therefore we need to ensure teams stick to their allocated time slot in order to minimise any risk of bubbles coming into contact with one another. However, we do not want any child to miss out and therefore staff will be ensuring all children in school get to engage in some form of physical activity throughout the day, equivalent to the time that it would take to complete the daily mile. Likewise, we do not want our remote learners to miss out either and therefore if children at home would like to complete a daily mile/physical activity and share this through Seesaw, that would be fantastic! Hi Park Street, We hope you're all well and enjoying your learning this half term (whether that's through Seesaw or in school). We have heard LOADs of amazing things that you're up to so keep up the hard work. We're all very proud of you for the commitment and resilience you are showing. Mr Smith has been working on some great activities for staying active at home, whether that's during your PE sessions or at a weekend. He has asked us to share his ideas with you so we have attached a little presentation below. As Mr Smith does not know what equipment you have at home, he has tried to keep this to a minimum and it may be that if you can't find the exact equipment, you might have an alternative you could you instead. Keep active, keep healthy, keep working hard and as always, stay safe. Take care and bye for now, Miss Garratt and Mrs Petitt
Team CH worked extremely hard in their PE lesson this week and therefore deservedly picked up the PE class of the week award. The children worked on their balancing skills individually and then with a partner.
The children seemed to really enjoy the warm up Mr. Men game, I would call out a Mr. Men character, then the children would have to perform that movement/action to the character I shout out. For example- Mr. Slow, the children would walk round slowly. Or Mr. Rush the children would walk round quickly. Mr. Happy went down well the children would walk around with a huge smile on their face! Fantastic from Team CH Well done Mr. Smith A huge well done to the children in Team AC. Everyone always remembers to bring their PE kit. No one in this class ever really forgets to bring it, which is a great achievement. The children know they are expected to bring it on Monday and take it on home on Friday for washing. Massive thanks to parents/guardians for the support with supplying PE kit across all classes.
Well done to everyone involved in Team AC, outstanding! Mr Smith Congratulations to Team JD who won the PE class of the week award last week. The class have been working extremely hard on their new topic, which is athletics. Team JD participated in a relay lesson, the focus was to pass the baton on using the correct technique!
Outstanding Team JD, you fully deserved the award. Keep up the hard work. Mr Smith Since returning to school in September following partial school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been working hard to identify the areas of learning individual pupils may need to catch up on. As always, we are making core subjects the priority - particularly the basic skills of numeracy and literacy. However here at Wombwell Park Street, we are passionate about our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum offer and feel now more than ever pupils need the opportunity to engage in a wide range of learning opportunities. Children will be accessing the full range of curriculum subjects this year. If you wish to discuss our current curriculum provision further do not hesitate to contact school and Mrs Longden Deputy Head can provide further information. Should you need any further information relating to provision in PE, Miss Garratt, Mr Smith and Mrs Petitt will be happy to answer any questions.
Every class has been working extremely hard in their chosen sport/ activity over the past couple of weeks. We have been able to get outside on the courts and field. A quick reminder that as the weather starts to turn and it gets colder if parents/carers could supply children with a jacket and jogger bottoms, this will be very much appreciated! Any problems regarding this, please get in touch.
The children have been phenomenal and we are seeing clear development in each class! All pupils definitely seem to enjoy participating in PE, which shows that we are going in the right direction! Well done to all, we will continue to set high standards right through school in PE. Mr Smith (Sports coach) and Miss Garratt (PE lead) Our awards for excelling in PE have started again over the past couple of weeks. Well done to Team CT, who won it this week after working extremely hard in the two lessons they participated in. Keep it up team CT! Also a special mention to team AF and LL who have also won the award.
Mr Smith PE is a statutory part of the curriculum and children are entitled to 2 hours of PE each week from KS1 upwards.
As you will be aware from Mrs Lawson’s letter last week, it is compulsory that children are required to have their PE kit in school. Our uniform policy states that: ‘The school has adopted the following uniform for PE lessons:
The system is was and will continue to be closely monitored. Therefore, if a pupil does not have the required kit or cannot remove earrings, then this will result in an initial verbal reminder to the child, followed by a letter to parents/carers if the reminder proves to be unsuccessful. We really appreciate those who do bring their PE kits to school religiously and want to make sure that this does not go unnoticed; therefore children who bring their PE kits every week will be rewarded with Dojo Points and will be invited to a sporting session with Mr Smith at the end of the each term. It is recommended that PE kits are brought to school on a Monday and left until Friday in case PE slots are changed or there are extra sporting activities taking place that week. Thank you for your support and understanding. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact school. Mr Smith (Sports Coach) and Miss Garratt (PE Lead) |
