Team CW read two books this week, Somebody Swallowed Stanley and Somebody Crunched Colin to help us learn about caring for the environment and the impact that litter has.
They had lots of fun taking part in different activities during provision time. These included writing items of litter that they needed to put in the bin, sorting litter into different groups to recycle; metal, paper, plastic. They even washed and reused their milk cartons instead of throwing them in the bin! You can see some of their models below.

The children have been learning the importance of not only looking after their physical health but their mental health too! The children wrote positive affirmations to other children in Team AC to help boost positivity and each others mental well-being! ❤️
This week’s line of inquiry has been “What foods are good for you?’. We started the week listening attentively to the story ‘Supertato’ and this has been our Talk through Stories throughout the week. We have discussed how exercise makes us feel and could name the following as things which are good for our health; exercise, sleep, washing hands, brushing teeth, personal hygiene and eating healthy. As a class we made a list of foods that are good for us. Our list included a variation of foods from the different food groups.
Our learning activities have included; writing a caption to match the Supertato picture, making a shopping list of different vegetables, creating a repeating pattern printing with a potato, making our very own Supertato, using tweezers to separate the pasta and pea and making a healthy food plate! On Tuesday we received a call from the Evil Pea who informed us that they might come and pay us a visit! Since then we have been busy writing plans on how we might stop the Evil Pea from playing tricks on us – so far we have not seen him! The Rainbows have taken part in some team games. This is something that Rainbows love to do and we have enjoyed developing these skills throughout the year.
Here they are taking part in healthy food bingo. The children in Team CW have been learning all about healthy eating and fruit and veg. Here they are buying healthy fruit and veg from their class shop. Good practise at using money as well.
Team CW practising their road crossing skills on the way to Well Walk. Each week they choose a road safety champion to demonstrate to the class how to cross the road safely.
This Week Team CH were asked, what is more important winning or being a good friend? We eventually agreed that although winning a world cup would be brilliant, it wouldn’t be enjoyable if we didn’t have good friends to share the moment with.
They started by talking to their peers about what a friend is, providing children with an opportunity to develop their oracy skills. After this, they moved on to identifying images of a good friend and explaining why. Finally, they created a good friend collage. The Year 6 teams have been on their class residential to Robin Wood. This visit has provided lots of personal and social opportunities for the children to challenge themselves, show resilience, perseverance and team work.
This week we have been learning all about mental health and how we need to keep our brain healthy and happy. We have been taking "brain breaks" to help our brain slow down and keep us calm. We enjoyed the yoga activities and flew in a hot air balloon and on a magic carpet! We also did some mindfulness colouring and created some bookmarks by colouring in some tricky designs very carefully. We listened to the story "Ruby's Worry" and know that we can help our mental health by talking about things we may be worried about, as the worry shrinks until it disappears. Our class story vote books also helped promote our wellbeing and good mental health. |
