This year we have been learning about Buddhism and comparing it with Christianity. During interfaith week we continued to learn about aspects of Buddhism as well as exploring the celebration of Chinese New Year. We were set the challenge by Mr Homes of exploring how Chinese New Year celebrations could contribute to community cohesion. We also learnt about how the process of creating mandalas is important to Buddhists and what lessons can be learnt.

Today Park Street have come together to celebrate the Chinese New Year also known as the Lunar New Year. This is one of the biggest events of the year for many East and South East Asian people. The reason the Chinese New year has fallen on the 1st February is because it marks the start of the new moon and the whole celebration depends on the moon and the date of the lunar New Year actually changes each year. This year marks the change from the Year of the Ox to the year of the Tiger. Each Team have been given a specific question to investigate as they explore the Chinese New Year.
In Team JF we explored different foods that people eat around Chinese New Year and what they represent. We then chose some of the foods we discovered and created our own Chinese menu and thought of a restaurant name.
