This week in Team CH have been exploring Hinduism and the widely celebrated festival of Diwali. Team CH really enjoyed listening to, sequencing and retelling the story of Rama and Sita.
Team CH have been re-telling the story of Noah's Ark using puppets. We really had fun performing for our friends! Gandhi Jayanti is an Indian nation holiday that celebrates the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who is referred to as the ‘Father of the Nation’. He was the driving force behind the foundation of the state of India. His birthday is celebrated with services, prayers, painting and essay contests with topics that glorify peace and non-violence, and the singing of Gandhi’s favourite devotional song entitled ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ (Ram Dhun for short).In Year 6 as part of our work around Buddhism we have been learning about the four Noble Truths and Eightfold Path. We are also exploring the impact of inspirational religious leaders.
This week Team CH have continued our learning of Christianity by retelling the story of "Noah's Ark". We enjoyed talking about the events that took place and questioning the choice God made when he sent the great flood. We talked about words such as "Noah, Ark, God, Bible and Old Testament" Happy Rosh Hashanah to members of the Jewish community. Happy new year.This week Team CH have been introduced to Christianity. We have been exploring special words such as "Jesus, Bible, God, Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel and old testament". We also had a think about words that our special to us before reading from the Old Testament - "In the beginning"Team CW have talked about Ramadan, reasons for fasting, giving to charity, praying, symbols of Islam and watched a short video explaining what Ramadan is.For Ramadan Team JF first discussed what they thought it could be and jotted down some ideas. We next talked through it together on the smart board, talking about what is, why its celebrated and what we think fasting could be. We then went back to our tables and wrote down some facts that we found out about Ramadan. Lastly, we made a Ramadan basket, by decorating the sides first and then assembling our basket. |
