For Autumn 1's enquiry focus, Team AC investigated the big question ' Are you more likely to have bad eyesight and wear glasses if you are older?'

For Autumn 1's enquiry focus, Team CH investigated the big question ' Do children with the biggest hands have the biggest feet?'
Team CH have continued to identify and name a variety of everyday materials. We then discussed different properties of a material and how a material is chosen for an object based on its properties. We discussed how it would be no good for wellies to be made from paper as it was not waterproof and all our feet would get wet and how it would be no could for reading glasses to be made from wood as we would not be able to see through them! We then learnt the names of key properties and what these key properties meant using MTYT. Our activity was to sort the bag of objects into the sorting circles based on the properties in each sorting circle.
Head over to their class blog to see some awesome photos! For Autumn 1's enquiry focus, Team EO investigated the big question ' Do all apples have the same number of seeds?'
In Science, we have been thinking about suitable uses for a range of materials and used our knowledge of properties to say why that material is good for the given object. LO: To work together to carry out and record a science investigation SHARED TASK
SC: I can generate questions I can identify dependent, independent and control variables I can make a prediction I can suggest ways to measure and record I can draw sensible conclusions based on my findings Key vocabulary: circuit, wire, bulb, battery, cell, dependent, independent, control, variable Conceptual/cross-curricular links: Maths data As well as developing our scientific understanding of electricity and circuits we have also completed an investigation linked to this half term's enquiry focus of pattern seeking. Year 6s investigated whether or not their was a link between the width of a person's arm span and their height. The results were really interesting. Pupils decided how they would measure and record their findings. They analysed the data looking for patterns and use their findings to write up a conclusion.
This half term in Team AC, they have been investigating the statement that 'light travels in straight lines'. In addition to this, Team AC have been thinking of different natural sources of light and artificial sources of light.
This half term, Team JF have been exploring materials. To start off with, they identified a range of everyday materials such as wood, glass, metal, paper and plastic. From this, they were able to name everyday objects made from them. After much discussion, the children were provided with a variety of materials to sort into their own groups based on a category of their choice. In addition, children in Team JF developed their understanding further by identifying suitable uses for different materials and explained why they would be suitable. For example, a wooden rabbit hutch would be the most suitable because it is hard and waterproof. This half term, year 6's have been exploring electricity. To begin with, they identified how electricity can occur naturally by investigating the question 'can your drawing power a lightbulb'. From this, they looked at how to sort appliances and how electricity is converted. In addition to this, they conducted research to find out about electricity, different energy sources and how to stay safe. |
