MathsThis week Team JF started to explore numbers as a length. We used bead strings to help us identify various numbers to 100. We applied our knowledge of counting in tens and ones to do this with speed. From this, we started to identify the length of our lines using the beads to help us and describe the length we had. We then had the challenge of working out the length of the line our partner drew using the beads and describing it using our key vocabulary. From this, we introduced a meter stick and started to investigate 100cm. We initially spotted patterns and quickly realised we could simply apply our knowledge of the number system to identify a length. From this we started to estimate numbers just as we did on a number line by finding the middle, knowing this was 50. As part of our learning, we explored the classroom to begin estimating the lengths on the tables! Some of us even set challenges for everyone else! LiteracyTeam JF continued learning about poetry. We started off by recapping what we had done, then started to explored shape poems. We each read a few and guessed, using the words and shape of the poem, what it was about. The children found this great fun! We then used an image of a sunflower to think of our own descriptions that we would include in our shared write. As we explored further, we decided it would be a great idea to write our own based on a crayon from our class authors book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ This week the children had the chance to write their very own shape poems. Artist of the termThis week Team JF have looked at the artist Hans Holbein. We decided that we would draw our very own portraits just like Hans Holbein. MusicThis week, Team JF continued exploring the song Hands, Feet, Heart. To begin with, we listened to the song to recap the instruments we could hear, the style of music and the tempo of the song. From this, we found the beat using the warm up games. After that we started exploring the glockenspiels with a partner. We first looked at how we use the beaters correctly, how the notes are positioned and practiced playing G,A,G,C to a beat. PEThis half term Team JF have been working incredibly hard to learn dance routines with a theme of fireworks. This week the children had the opportunity to put all of their hard work to use and perform their routines to the rest of the class. The children were amazing at this! Their timing, pace and moves had been carefully considered and they blew me away! ScienceThis week the children in Team JF made a prediction, to see if all materials move the same on different surfaces. We then did an experiment on multiple materials to see if our predictions were right. In conclusion that materials move quicker on a smooth materials.

Science This week Team JF continued exploring materials. As we are experts at naming a range of materials, we moved into sorting them. We used a Venn diagram to group materials into the categories flexible or rigid. Geography This week Team JF have continued exploring 'Life in the UK'. As we have already located the UK on a world map and identified the countries on a map of the UK, we moved into exploring landmarks. The children explored a number of landmarks within the UK and identified where they are in the country. From this, we started to think about how they were formed using the vocabulary 'human or physical features'. RE This week, Team JF have continued exploring Judaism. We had lots of discussion around religion and found out some of the basic principles of our chosen one. We explored the synagogue as a place of worship and even took a virtual tour to see inside! Over the past couple of weeks Team JF have been working incredibly hard to identify numbers on a number line. We initially started by identifying multiples of ten on a marked line but as we mastered this skill, moved into ones too! As our learning progressed, we moved into exploring unmarked number lines and how we could estimate the position of numbers on these too! Literacy Over the past couple of weeks we have been exploring shape poems. We started off by discussing what poems are and listened to a range of these to identify what we liked about them and our favourites. From this, we focused our learning on shape poems. We read a few together, identified the features of them and wrote our very own together based on a sunflower. This week, the children have started to build their skills in preparation of writing their very own based on the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. |
