This half term the amazing scientists in Team JF were presented with a problem. They received a letter from some very upset goats pleading for their help! The goats had their bridge destroyed and couldn't get to the field as the mean troll was stopping them! Team JF knew they had to help! They decided to design the trolls a new bridge to get them across to safety. The children had to think really carefully about the design of their bridge to ensure it was suitable to cross. First we looked at a range of designs from curved, straight, narrow and wide bridges. From this we studied the materials they were made from and started our creations!

This week Team JF have been working incredibly hard to understand the concept of division. We started the week understanding the word equal and what this is and what it is not. We were then able to start by using practical resources to make an amount and share them equally. As our understanding grew, the division symbol was introduced and we began to unpick what this means and read calculations together. The children were then able to apply this into written form and read, write and solve their own calculations independently. Once again they have worked incredibly hard this week and their 'can do' attitudes have really shine through! Literacy This week Team JF have completed their amazing newspaper report on The Great Fire of London! The children have thoroughly enjoyed writing this piece and have truly done an amazing job! They can all definitely tell you a thing or two about life during this time! As the children completed their drafts they moved into using their purple pens to edit and improve their writing. From this they published their pieces using their very best handwriting and even remembered to write in columns! Look out for their writing out on display! Maths
This week in Team JF we have been exploring money. The children have worked incredibly hard to identify the range of coins we use and explain their value. From this, we moved into recognising and using notes. As our learning progressed and the children became comfortable with this skill, we were able to start counting! Finally our week ended by opening our very own shop! We had to decided the object we would like to buy and get the correct amount for this. The children have been amazing and I'm sure they will be asking to count money at home too! Literacy Wow what a week! This week in literacy we have started a very exciting new unit of learning. We have decided to share the breadth of knowledge we have of our history topic 'The Great Fire of London' with you all in the form of a newspaper report. We started by identifying features we need to use in our own and focused on how to recognise, read and write expanded noun phrases. We will continue our learning next week but make sure you are keeping an eye on the drive as we will be sharing these with you very soon! Computing
This week Team JF have started our new scheme of learning. We started off by discussing key vocabulary of computing such as login and passwords. We then discussed the importance of this information and how we could handle it. The children received their new login details and were able to log onto the system independently. When we were on, we created our own avatar to use on our profile going forward. The children really enjoyed their learning and can't wait to see what's in store for them next! Maths |
Literacy This week Team JF have started an exciting new unit of learning- instructions. The children worked in pairs initially following instructions to make a jam sandwich. From this, they were able to identify what instructions are and their purpose. As the week progressed, we started to unpick the features of instructions starting with bossy verbs and adverbs. The children have worked incredibly hard and once again amazed me with their dedication to learning! Well done Team JF you superstars! Maths This week Team JF have been consolidating their skills of number bonds. We started the week by revisiting number bonds to 10 and looking at how these are made using a variety of concrete resources. From this we were able to identify patterns between these numbers. From this, we quickly realised if we knew bonds to 10 then we could make bonds to 20. We used part whole models and cubes to make a range of bonds to 20 and tell our partner what we knew abou these. |
