Sports Day!
Well, the sun was shining and the children had the most wonderful time this week at the school's sports day event. As you can see, we thought that all of the children were winners! Even you parents enjoyed racing and taking part, and we thank you all for coming to watch us on the day.

Wow, wow and wow!!
What an amzing performance by the Year 4 children at Park Street. After months of practising and hard work with the great Mr Kelly, the children produced the most tremendous concert to their parents and carers. They had the most wonderful and magnificent time, entertaining everyone with both their singing and playing of the ukulele. Well done everyone and thank you too to Mr Kelly. Art During the Summer term, the children have been focusing on producing collage art of an Arctic scene. They primarily focussed upon the colours that could possibly be seen in the Arctic, other than the startling white of the snow; engaging in the lustre of the sky and the amazing colours on show. They then had to use water colours to produce their sky before adding materials to identify as the snow. The children then added paper plates to their snowscapes, to impersonate an igloo to complete their scenes. The children's artwork looked amazing!! Writing
During the second half of the Summer term, the children have made a wonderful start in their non-chronological writing about their chosen location (Mojave desert, Arctic and Amazon rainforest), for the topic, I'm a Teacher... Get me out of here! Their main focus is looking at using their knowledge of expanded noun phrases, adding outstanding adjectives to make their sentences phenominal, as well as applying 3rd person structure to their writing. Maths In maths, the children have been applying their knowledge of fractions to further develop their understanding of decimals. The children have been focussing on number lines, including those on everday objects such as weighing scales, measuring jugs and the like. The children have been using manipulatives in the classroom to broaden their understanding further enabling them to use these skills when answering problem solving questions. Science As part of our science learning about forces, the children have participated in a science investigation about water resistance. The children had to plan their investigation, considering the variables that would affect the outcome of their experiment. The children enjoyed finding out about how the shape of an object has an affect on the speed at which it will move in water. I'm a Teacher... Get Me Out of Here!
Writing The children have had immense fun in writing over the last two weeks. They came back from the Easter holidays, ready to send three amazing teachers to three very different locations around the world. In our writing, the children have been intently researching about their chosen location, finding out all about the Amazon, Mojave desert and the Arctic. Included in their research, they have been discovering the exquisite delicacies, the people and the various tribes, as well as finding out about the peoples lives who live there. The learning outcome for this area in writing, is to ultimately write an email to Mrs Lawson, requesting that sjhe allows three teachers to leave Park Street in an amazing adventure, to further enrich the curriculum of the children at Park Street! Maths In our maths learning, we have been working very hard in continuing our learning about fractions. The children have been adding and subtracting fractions, and, developing their knowledge and skills even further, the children have been developing their understanding of how to multiply fractions. They have all been working very hard since returning for the Summer term. Science Throughout the second half of the Spring term, Team DB have been learning all about Forces. They have been discovering how Forces are the things that allow the movement of all objects around us. The children have been learning all about gravity and how this is a force which keeps us grounded, and friction, which can either slow or encourage movement when two objects collide with each other through resistance (or lack of). As part of our science learning, the children investigated the force of resistance by designing their own parachutes with various sized canopies. The children had to consider whether the size of the canopy effected the speed at which the parachute would fall to Earth, as well as contemplating the different variables. The whole class worked very hard at developing their understanding and encouraging each others' learning. They had so much fun watching their parachutes sail down to the ground! Reading In reading, Team DB have been working tremendously hard at developing their reading skills; applying expression and intonation into their reading, whether they are reading aloud or quietly to themselves. The children have been practising reading with their echo reading partners and then presenting this to the whole class. This has allowed the other children in class to give constructive feeback about the pitch, pace, how loud or quiet the pair were, and the expression and intonation used. The children have demonstrated how they have found this valuable in improving their own reading skills. Maths
In our maths, the children have been learning about proper and improper fractions. They have been discovering how to use both of these concepts in their learning:
From this the children will continue to develop their knowledge in fractions by learning about mixed numbers and how these include a whole number and a fraction. Maths Over the last few weeks in maths, Team DB have been focussing on developing their division knowledge. We have used manipulatives to demonstrate the concept of division, allowing the children the chance to apply these concepts into their mathematical learning. The children had a fabulous time working in their teams. Writing
Our writing focus this half term is Greek Myths. The children have been creating their own mythical creature, researching all about Greek mythical hybrids. From this the learning outcome is for the children to create their own Greek myth, incorporating their creature into the story and allowing the hero to save the day. The children will use their knowledge about expanded noun phrases, applying adjectives and prepositions, apply relative clauses into their writing to provide the reader with more detail, encouraging their story to be read! cDuring the first half of the Spring term, Team DB were learning all about Bollywood dancing and how to play Rounders.
In rounders, the children have developed their throwing and catching skills, batting and bowling and striking skills. The children were also given the opportunity to play competitively against each other, allowing them to develop their skills as team players. Throughout each week, the children practised the various styles of dance and choreographed their own routines, following Indian style music. The children all enjoyed experiencing the different movements and produced a finale of a routine as a whole class. |
