What an amazing day our Reception new started and new Year 1 children have had in Team EO. Next year we will be Team EO – The Sunshines! I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting our youngest children and their parents and seeing how amazing our Year 1 children are going to be!
The Year 1’s started the day in assembly with Mr Fidment sharing the story ‘The Planet in a Pickle Jar’ which focused on difference, not taking people for face value and making a difference by accepting each other – allowing you to be yourself and stand out from the crowd! I then welcomed the children to Team EO and then the children got straight on with our first activity our ‘helping hands’. Each child had a picture of a hand and on each finger children identified someone in school who helps them. The children then decorated them and these will be displayed on our class doors next year so that all staff know which staff members/children best support individuals when they are not feeling okay. Our Reception children will complete these in September. Whilst the Year 1’s were hard at work our Reception children were happily exploring our learning environments inside and out! The children took part in lots of different activities such as painting and making models in our creative area, exploring in the home corner and play-dough area. Outside children were able to build in the construction area, explore the sand, water and mud kitchen areas and climb on our climbing frame and wall. We had such a lovely time that we didn’t want to leave! The Year 1 children were very excited watching short introductory videos to some of next years’ learning and I can tell that we are going to have such a fantastic year – they were so enthusiastic and kept saying “I love it” at the end of the videos! Year 1’s next job was to create “Me in a Jar” here the children drew pictures of the things that make them them – what they like and we are going to cut out photos of the children and they will be holding their jar – these will be displayed in the cloakroom from September. The Year 1’s also explored their new inside learning environment and spent some time in the more familiar outdoor environment! Each Reception session ended with me sharing the book “On the night of the shooting star” which was a book about friendships as we will all make new friends in September! The Year 1’s ended the day listening to several stories and singing some songs! Every Reception child will have received a story book to take home and keep at home to read with their parents and enjoy over the holidays. It has been lovely for all staff to meet our brand new Sunshines. We are all looking forward to welcoming you back in September so that we can get to know you more and do lots of wonderful learning together! Have a wonderful holiday and we can't wait to see you again in September!
