We certainly had a creative day in Team JD! We had to research souvenirs people buy from the seaside, look at the packaging they came in. We did this to help inform us and identify the appropriate packaging for each souvenir. We then evaluated which one matched our criteria, which tools we would need that fit the purpose of our design. Finally, we created our own souvenir box using coloured card we had chosen. We are rather proud of our designs! What do you think?

The children certainly enjoyed our no pen or pencil day. We had lots of fun learning. We had some group activities playing maths monopoly, we did TT rock stars, TT rockstars rock around the clock and research for our geography topic. We had a full day engaging in oracy and listening to each other, it was wonderful to see. We were so lucky in team JD to have the Imam visit us in class this week, mashallah! We learnt so many amazing facts about the religion Islam, Those who follow the Islamic faith are called Muslims, and there are around 1.9 billion Muslims in the world today. This makes Islam one of the world's largest religions, the second-largest religion after Christianity. Muslims only believe in one God, Allah, The Qur’an is the holy book of Islam. It contains 114 chapters, which are called surahs, Muslims pray 5 times a day, at dawn (Fajr), midday (Dhuhur), late afternoon (Asr), after sunset (Maghrib) and between sunset and midnight (Isha) and much much more! The children were engaged and loved learning about all aspects of the religion. They children then got chance to look at the pray mats, what they had to wear to pray. They even got chance to demonstrate it to the whole class. A big thank you to Mr Holmes and Mrs Chavan for orgnasing the visit. During this half term in PE we have covered a range of different activities. Such as, basketball, football and balance.
We have also focused on team work and leadership. We had four groups and each group had a different obstacle course. One team member was blind folded and the other partner in the team had to guide them through the obstacle course using only their instructions. The children stayed focused and were attuned to only using their sense of hearing. Whilst the leader soon figured out that their instructions needed to be short and clear. The children had so much fun and the adults in Team JD were in awe of how well the children worked together. We have future leaders in Team Park Street! During maths this week, we did some practical investigation. Working has a team to we measured out water to see how many millilitres are in a litre. Then applying that to real life, how many 1's make up 10, 10's make up 100 and how many 100's make a thousand. The children really enjoyed the visual investigation which then supported them during their maths learning throughout the week.
On Thursday we did our walk around Wombwell. To support our Geography learning, comparing Wombwell to Whitby. The children were extremely well behaved and set a brilliant example of behaviour for Park Street.
Also over this half term, we have been covering Islam in religious education, We have learnt about the five pillars of Islam, their one god Allah, the book of prayers the Qur’an and how Muslims pray five times a day. Team JD moved around the classroom looking for information on the five pillars of Islam. Ask your child if they can share any information on Makkah (Mecca) with you. We had a lovely week in team JD. We did comparisons between Wombwell and Whitby in Geography. During Art we have been painting our Whitby drawings with water colours. We are very talented in Team JD.
Josh won our best dressed rock-star on Friday, well done Josh! We had a fab day doing lots of times tables games, the children had so much fun. For this half term we have been learning about 'my home' in Spanish. We have learnt about different rooms in our home and in our community Some of our key vocab we have been learning and trying to remember:
Una Casa Un Piso En el campo En la costa See if you can ask your child if they can name some rooms in your home. Let us know how you get on..... Our Incredible Us Friday's are always so much fun! This week we made paper aeroplane's and took them out to test them. Mr Davison was having way too much fun!
During learning in maths we were subtracting two and three digit numbers using exchange. In literacy we were building a character description of Gangsta Granny using personality and appearance. |
