Here we are, rocking into week five! We have had a full afternoon of amazing art! We have turned the plastic pop bottles into Greek pottery and vases. We have worked really hard in partners to create amazing pieces of pottery. Today we got messy, we applied Mod Roc to the plastic shapes we have created. These will then dry ready for us to create wonderful Greek paintings onto them.
We had an amazing afternoon full of creativity! Mrs Akyel is super proud of our determination and never give up attitude. During science Team JD focused on resistance. We learnt and understood that resistance is a type of friction and the effects of air résistance. We carried an experiment to explore air resistance and how the mass, gravity and surface area. We had to predict which of the parachutes would fall the fastest, we had to create four different size parachutes, and test them accurately. When then had to write down our observations and conclusion.
Please see the results in the photos. Most of us predicted correctly that the smallest parachute will fall the fastest. Wow! Where do we start with our amazing WW1 day! We had such an amazing time and would really like to thank Mr Fidment for such a passionate, fun, hands on and down right dirty experience.
As you can see from the photos, we had the best time and we had such big smiles (and lots of dirt) on our faces! We really felt like were soldiers and got stuck in with all the activities set for us! Working as a team and creating such memories! Making the dens and working together really gave us a sense of confidence, patience and problem solving! In team JD this term we are learning about World War one. This week we identified the countries and their roles at the start of World War One. We looked the dates, the alliances and the triple Entente. The children are excited for our WW1 day on Monday 5th February.
This week in Science we have focused on gravity. We learnt about who discovered gravity, what gravity is, what things have gravity, which has the strongest gravity the Earth or the Moon and Sir Isaac Newton.
We then made in pairs our very own helicopters to support our new learning on gravity. After our experiment we can now explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity and we can now identify the effects of air resistance. We really do love science in Team JD Over the last two weeks we have been learning some new chords and rhythms. We have found this tricky, but we never give up in Team JD! Also, we have been learning three new songs which we are really excited about. The Beatles-Helena Rigby, Oasis- The Songbird and Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes!
We are feeling very proud of our new achievements, learning a new instrument isn't an easy feat! Our Spring focus in Team JD is Ancient Greek pottery.
The last two weeks we have investigated the patterns found on the pots and vases. We have recreated the geometric patterns and we have applied them onto a Greek vase design. During this term we are going to create our very own Greek Vase, using recycling materials and Mod rock! We can't wait to keep you up to date with our designs. Our first week back in team JD and we have been working hard. We have been doing a range of new learning.
During maths this week we focused on addition using four digit numbers and the column method. We looked for patterns in the numbers to help us discover the answer. For literacy we have delved into focusing on key features of a setting description and detecting verbs, adjectives, five senses, conjunctions and prepositions. We have gone in depth on prepositions making sure we had a clear understanding of different ones in place, time and movement. During PE this term we are focusing on hockey! We have really enjoyed learning how to hold the hockey stick correctly, how to push the ball with the hockey stick, how to control it effectively and how to position our bodies. We have done some team competitions and we have loved it. |
