Team LL and AF have thoroughly enjoyed their history work this term. We have been finding out all about the Ancient Egyptians. We have looked at the role of archaeologists and explored the information that historical sources can provide. We have applied our map skills to find Egypt on a map and worked out when the Ancient Egyptians were around compared to other historical areas we have covered. So far we have explored, religion, the structure of society, everyday life and some of the incredible innovations from the time.
Forest Group - supporting each other, working together, demonstrating listening skills and a drive to push themselves.
This year we have been learning about Buddhism and comparing it with Christianity. During interfaith week we continued to learn about aspects of Buddhism as well as exploring the celebration of Chinese New Year. We were set the challenge by Mr Homes of exploring how Chinese New Year celebrations could contribute to community cohesion. We also learnt about how the process of creating mandalas is important to Buddhists and what lessons can be learnt.
Linking in with our work on the Ancient Egyptians we have been reading a range of historical texts - some non-fiction and some historical fiction. We are thoroughly enjoying our class novel Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carroll. We are developing written descriptions of Howard Carter's discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. We have been exploring formal and informal language. We continue to develop our vocabulary by using a multi-sensory approach to learning tricky words. We have revisited word classification, noun phrases and punctuating direct speech. We continue to develop our understanding of the passive and active form.
So far we have continued to work on our fractions, decimals and percentages. We have been reasoning and problem solving. We have been trying to work out the whole if we have a given fraction, decimal or percentage. We have also been revising equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. We have revisited properties of 2d and 3d shape and explored translations and symmetry. We have also been working on our conversion of metric measures.
