This week, SG continued learning about rocks and began exploring soils. We kicked things off by heading outdoors to discover all the different types of soil around us. Many of us found various bugs, rocks, and a bunch of worms in the soil! We looked into why worms are so important and how they help the soil. After that, we got into testing how quickly water moves through different soils. We compared sandy soil, clay soil, and loam. Even though the results showed that clay had the best drainage, we all agreed that loam is the top choice for growing crops. It has good drainage, keeps the soil moist, and is packed with nutrients. Our results show that sand was the least permeable.

Today, we discussed things that help us stay healthy. We talked about keeping ourselves clean and why it's so important for our well-being. We also discussed how staying clean can make us feel more confident and better overall. Y3 remembered lots of things about brushing their teeth and hands from last year, it was very impressive!
Once Y3 were confident sorting the different rocks they had found, we carried out tests to determine the hardness of the rocks. We found that the softer rocks (chalk) were, the more likely they were to make a mark. This week SG have been investigating different types of rocks. First, we went to the Nature Reserve and collected as many rocks as we could find. After that, we sorted them based on properties such as size, color, texture, and pattern.Today in PE, SG focused on improving their ball control and awareness skills. We began by learning the correct way to hold a hockey stick. Once everyone felt confident, we had a great time practicing dribbling around cones. It was a fun and active session!
