![]() This week, SG continued learning about rocks and began exploring soils. We kicked things off by heading outdoors to discover all the different types of soil around us. Many of us found various bugs, rocks, and a bunch of worms in the soil! We looked into why worms are so important and how they help the soil. After that, we got into testing how quickly water moves through different soils. We compared sandy soil, clay soil, and loam. Even though the results showed that clay had the best drainage, we all agreed that loam is the top choice for growing crops. It has good drainage, keeps the soil moist, and is packed with nutrients. Our results show that sand was the least permeable.

Today, we discussed things that help us stay healthy. We talked about keeping ourselves clean and why it's so important for our well-being. We also discussed how staying clean can make us feel more confident and better overall. Y3 remembered lots of things about brushing their teeth and hands from last year, it was very impressive!
Once Y3 were confident sorting the different rocks they had found, we carried out tests to determine the hardness of the rocks. We found that the softer rocks (chalk) were, the more likely they were to make a mark. This week SG have been investigating different types of rocks. First, we went to the Nature Reserve and collected as many rocks as we could find. After that, we sorted them based on properties such as size, color, texture, and pattern.Today in PE, SG focused on improving their ball control and awareness skills. We began by learning the correct way to hold a hockey stick. Once everyone felt confident, we had a great time practicing dribbling around cones. It was a fun and active session!
Today Team SG went to visit Barnsley Museum and Cooper Art gallery.
We've been learning about how archaeologists learn about the past by excavating sites and analysing artefacts and other physical remains. Today, children in Team SG got to become archaeologists, analysing artefacts and producing observational sketches of their favourite finds! They unearthed an enormous number of tools that assisted us in making predictions about how people lived. We examined each artefact.appearance, what it is made from, what it might be used for.Based on our findings, we analysed how life was in the past and compared it to the present. The children then tried their hand at creating their own stone age-inspired gave drawings. They are really amazing! Team SG has been participating in more group activities to strengthen our capacity for healthy competition and self-confidence as part of last term's PE unit on teamwork and leadership and our current study of conflict revolution in PSHE. We used our Unifix cubes today in a group building competition. The children were assigned three tasks: build a robot, an octopus, and a dinosaur.
In PSHE today we focused on conflict resolution. We considered the difference between small and big arguments, taking time to discuss various arguments we may have had in our lives already and the steps we took to overcome them. We agreed as a class that if we had a problem at home or school, we might:
After this, we spoke about all the things we look for in a friend and why we think these qualities are so important. We have been reading various stories from the Torah in RE. Today we looked at the Creation story and why it is important in both Christianity and Judaism. We discussed why the story is significant in both religions and produced our own class story board using freezeframes! |
