Well it has been a very strange way of learning for Team AF this year as they have completed their first week of learning from home. We have all loved having our daily Zoom calls and it has been fantastic to see so many of our children's smiling faces as we stay connected. Mr Fidment has been overwhelmed to see so many of our team engaging and trying their absolute best to achieve in their learning through Seesaw. WELL DONE TEAM AF! Maths In Maths this week, we have been learning how to count below zero. We have loved finding out about negative numbers. We have also been learning how to write numbers up to 1000 in Roman Numerals. In actual fact, we were probably better than Mr Fidment at this! Literacy As we start a new piece of writing in Literacy, we have began to look at how we can create an atmosphere in our writing. Inspired by our new reading book (Dracula), we have started to think about what it is like at Whitby Abbey. We started by watching a video of the Abbey on a dark, mysterious night. Before we start our writing, we have been focusing on some key skills that will need to feature in our work. We have been learning about subordinate clauses, expanded noun phrase and simple and complex sentences. We are looking forward to applying these to our writing.

Maths
This week, we have been looking at how we can count in powers of 10. Although some of us found this a bit tricky, once we looked at it with a place value chart we have become quite the experts. As well as this, we have began to learn how we can round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000 and 1 million! Literacy During our Literacy lessons this week, we have finished writing our ghost stories about Convict's Tunnel, edited them and copied them up. We must say, we have some of the neatest handwriting Mr Fidment has ever known. It shows that our perseverance and positive attitude to our learning is really paying off! |
