We have enjoyed the story "Funny Bones" this week, especially looking at the animal skeletons and guessing what animals they are! We have enjoyed painting pictures of skeletons on black card and been really careful to try and add some detail. We have painted some self portraits using mirrors to help us identify the correct hair and eye colour. We have also looked at some facial features including freckles, eye brows and eye lashes. We have used the dough to create some models of ourselves and have also made some shape pictures using flat shapes to create faces. In maths this week we have been practising counting in different ways. We have been counting claps, jumps and taps on a tambourine. We have been practising stopping counting after the last tap rather than carry on! We have been identifying numbers on a number square and some of us have been counting in twos to 20 and tens to 100. In phonics we have revised some previous sounds that have been taught including set 2 sounds for Read Write Inc. Some of us have been practising "Fred Talk" (segmenting and blending) to read green word cards. Most of us have begun to learn and consolidate set 1 sounds and have begun with m, a and s this week. We have been learning the handwriting phrase and this has helped us begin to write the sounds. At the beginning of the week everyone should have received a login for the learning platform Seesaw. I will be adding information (and sometimes activities) to Seesaw weekly so please try and login each week so you don't miss anything! What a fabulous first week we have had in the Brilliant Bears! I am immensely proud of every single Brilliant Bear. It is never easy coming back to school after such a long time at home and everyone has listened well, worked hard, been kind and caring and used beautiful manners! Over the past few days we have been learning the names of our new friends and how to use all the different areas in the classroom. We have tried new activities and got used to our new routines. The younger children stayed for their lunch and really enjoyed it! We made some split pin teddy bears by cutting around the outline of their arms and legs, we created some textured bears in the creative area, coloured some bears having a picnic and created cut and stick shape bears. We started our yoga lessons and loved taking part! Our topic next week is "All About Me" and the story we will be reading is "Funny Bones". After such an amazing first week back in school I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again next week for lots of fun! We have been learning about Barnaby Bear and his travels around the world. We began the week by learning about London and we know it is our capital city. We have learnt some famous landmarks including The London Eye and Buckingham Palace and we know the Royal Family live there. We learnt about Spain, India and Japan and what their different foods are, clothing and beliefs. We even learnt to count to 10 in Spanish and Japanese!
We had a ride on our role play tube train, made red phone boxes, made blossom trees, origami fish and designed kimonos. We also made a passport and decorated Indian elephants. We learnt to tell the time to o'clock and half past, wrote a postcard from Barnaby Bear about his travels and made a mini London Book. Our theme this week has been "Space." We have loved reading Whatever Next and seeing Baby bear have a picnic on the moon with his friend.
We have watched a live feed of the International Space Station and seen the astronauts on their space walk! We watched some videos of astronauts in the space station with no gravity! We guessed what would happen when they tried to eat, drink, brush their teeth and guessed how they slept in space. We were very surprised how they lived and where amazed when Tim Peake played Ping Pong with a bubble of water! We have learnt about emotions and what emotions are good and bad. We created a picture of a "Happy Jar" with items that we could look at to help us feel happy. We know who we can ask to help us if we are feeling negative emotions. We have continued with Read Write Inc Phonics and have written a list of things we would like to take into Space using phonics to help us. In maths we have been counting and ordering numbers to 20 and have been subtracting. We listened to the song "5 Little Aliens" to help us." We have had a lovely first week back at school and have been really excited to see our friends after such a long time learning at home. We definitely missed them and have enjoyed spending time together again.
We have been learning our new routine and been talking about the changes to our classroom. Our topic has been We're Going On a Bear Hunt. We have been painting pictures of bears and our family. We have been using compare bears to add and subtract to find the answer. We have also done some Yoga and enjoyed following We're Going On a Bear Hunt! We ordered pictures from the story and wrote some sentences about our favourite part of the story. We labelled pictures of the bear and wrote a descriptive sentence to describe him. We had Circle Time to discuss how the bear was feeling at the end of the story and how we could help him, and our friends if they are feeling sad. Our first week back was really fun, and I am so proud of the Fabulous Flamingos, they really are FAB! Hi Guys,
Although things are not normal for us at the moment we have to remember that it wont always be this way and we will all be together again soon. So, just a short message to you all to stay safe, be kind, be happy, be the amazing children that you are and make everyday awesome. Missing everyone lots and sending massive hugs to you all. Mrs Clarke This has become a unique time in history and to remember this time I have attached a workbook to make a "time capsule". There are pages to add information about you and your family, your community and other events and interests. I hope you take some time to complete some or all of this so you can look back at it in years to come. ![]()
