This week in RE team CH have thought about how Jewish people have some religious rule that help them know how to behave. We first thought about rules we have at home and school, then introduced the ten commandments suing this video as a stimulus to learning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1LMfnr7vP0
Finally, we drew pictures to show the rules we have at home and school. Including a rule that Jewish people follow in order to be a good Jew. eChildren were challenged to design a landing craft that protects a Lego plane when it's dropped from up high.
We collected all the materials we named in our initial plan. We knew there was no "right" set of materials, so we needed to be creative and try lots of things to see what worked best! Children drew their ideas on paper and thought about, what does your landing craft look like? What materials will you use? Finally children built their landing device and put the Lego plane inside. Mr Holmes tested the landing crafts out by dropping them from high up. If the Lego plane didn’t break we were successful in our design! If the plane did break we went back and made changes to our design and re-tested it. This week Team CH we transported to the jungle. We had to be quite and crawl along the jungle floor as silently as possible, otherwise we would wake the tigers!
We practiced moving in a variety of ways such as a balancing flamingo, a currying mouse, a leaping kangaroo and a stomping elephant. In art this week children have drawn inspiration from our History topic, The great fire of London and have produced some fantastically, detailed panting's of how they envision the what the fire actually looked like.
In this session, the class began a new unit of writing based on our text driver Snow White in New York, written by Fiona French. This was shared with the class as part of an exciting hook. After reading the story and providing children with opportunities to develop their oracy skills we played a game to select a place Snow white could visit on her Honeymoon. After sharing the text, the text, audience and purpose for writing was established. Children were clear that the focus for this unit of writing would be to Re- read their work to check it makes sense and make changes to improve their work, edit own writing and check for the use of the punctuation taught: capital letters, full stops. During this lesson, the focus of learning was centred around understanding the Text, Audience and Purpose of writing and expanding our knowledge of when to use a capital letter.
This week in maths Team CH have been representing addition and subtraction stories with a variety of resources. We started by using a clear visual structure of the first, then and now frame and talked through each step of the story before writing the equation to represent the story. Once confident with this we removed the pictures and asked children to draw the picture to represent the number story alongside writing the equation. After this we moved onto ten frames and used counters to represent the number story, this included us writing the equation and finally we looked at representing a number story on a number line.
This week in science we have been investigating the features of groups of animals. We have looked to identifying some features of birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and fish by creating a collage of features. We spent time practicing talking about the features and sharing with our peers.
