This week we have introduced our music unit that celebrates a wide range of musical styles. We started by completing a base line Quiz to enable us to consolidate learning that has previously taken place. After this, we practiced finding a steady beat, repeating rhythm patters using long and short and finally, repeated simple melodic patters using high and low pitch. WE really enjoyed sing the song Find the beat and discovering the Hip Hop style of music.
This week we have been counting for a cardinal purpose we have set out around school counting, steps, seconds, shoes, bags, tables and chairs. We are all becoming really strong at carefully counting a total number of objects. We were able to gather data from our counting and talk about the greatest total of seconds it takes to get somewhere, which classroom had the least amount of coats, how are steps increased when walking forwards but decreased when walking backwards and identify the smallest number.
Hola! Team CH have loved discovering Spanish. We really enjoy greeting each other during register time with either Buenos dias or Buenos tardes.
We started incredible me time by reading ‘Where happiness begins’ by Eva Eland. We talked about emotions that we know such as, happiness, anger, sadness, excitement and feeling brave. Next, to give children the opportunity to learn their peers’ names and to continue building relationship within the classroom we played Jenga. To continue working towards our Spring objective of knowing the alphabet in Literacy, we labelled the brinks A to Z and children worked through the Alphabet to remove the blocks carefully to avoid knocking down the tower. We started our learning around Judaism by talking about a book that is special to us. I introduced my favourite book to the children; 'The whale who wanted more'. The children then thought about their favourite book and explained why their book is special to them. Finally the children drew a picture of their special book and wrote down the title and author alongside their picture. Team CH have very much enjoyed exploring the United Kingdom with the help of Oddizzi. We've enjoyed a virtual adventure of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. There is so much to do and see! We have loved being up an active in our counting! Practicing ordinal counting each day has really helped us in becoming familiar with the flow, sound and sequence of numbers. Additionally, Team CH were asked the question which team has the most coats? We set of searching for the answer. Using our cardinal counting skills we were able to discover that Team JF had the most coats. Also, we furthered our cardinal counting skills by counting how many blocks we could removed before the tower crumbled. This week team CH have continued counting for an ordinal purpose using number lines. We began by talking about all the numbers at the bottom of the number line and noticed that 0-100 all have zero ones, but the tens increase as we move up the number line. Next we moved on to identifying one less than a multiple of ten and recognised that most of the time this number has nine ones. We spent lots of time counting forwards and backwards starting from a variety of positions
We have loved being up an active in our counting! Practicing ordinal counting each day has really helped us in becoming familiar with the flow, sound and sequence of numbers. As we continue counting forwards and backwards with 100, we have been using Gattegno charts to help us match the number names to the correct digits. We have been practicing linking the number name with the digits that represent them. We have grown in confidence and can mostly point to the digits that form the number name, our next target is to be able to write these numbers correctly. For example, if I tap fifty and five my number is 55 not 505. We spent time practicing counting in multiples of ten and discussing how numbers are made up of tens and ones.
We have loved being up an active in our counting! Practicing ordinal counting each day has really helped us in becoming familiar with the flow, sound and sequence of numbers Using one hundred squares we have become familiar in counting forwards and backwards from any number between 1 and 100. Each time we practice counting with an ordinal purpose we become more confident in recognising number position. As well as practicing our ordinal counting skills we have been counting for a cardinal purpose. We really enjoyed discovering how many of somethings are in the tray and writing the digits to represent that number.
