This week Team CH have been thinking about the events that took place in London during the 17th centry. In 1666 a terrible fire destoryed most of London and our children have been thinking about those events during their art lesson today.
The children have manipulated a range of materials using a variety of cutting tecniques to produce some hot art work! This week in team CH, we have moved onto Unit Five of our maths learning. The children have had the opportunity to ensure they have a sense of sequence and synchronicity in counting from zero to ten. Children were presented with a range of concrete objects within the number set six to ten. Children were asked to count the objects and record the numeral to show the quantity in each example.
Adults provided lots of opportunity for children to embed the cardinality principle by repeatedly using the stem sentence ' one, two three... there are three objects. Finally, children where given access to the number names to refer to for spelling and adult highlighted the challenge of spelling the number name 'eight' to pupils. This week in team CH we have continued building on our counting skills and intoduced the spannish words for six, seve, eight, nine and ten.
Seis = 6 Siete = 7 Ocho = 8 Nueve = 9 Diez = 10 This week learners focused on programming the floor robot to move forwards and backwards. They observed that the robot moves forwards and backwards a fixed distance. This highlights the idea that robots follow a clear, fixed command in a precise and repeatable way. Learners thought about starting the robot from the same place each time. Using the same start position with fixed commands allowed learners to predict what a program will do.
This week Team CH have been introduced to biology. Biology is the study of living organisms. Children were given the opportunity to talk about a variety of common animals that they may have seen before in their local area while watching this short clip; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbyHwyUVQTs .
After a discussion of the animals which we saw, we identified common pets, wild, woodland and farm animals. Finally, we sorted these into groups and shared our work with a talk partner. This week Team CH have started Unit four. We have introduced 2D shapes such as, hexagon, trapezium, rhombus, triangle and square. In addition to this we used the shapes to create pattern block images. We focused on rotating pieces and paying careful attention to aligning the edges of pieces. Additionally, we found alternative ways to make shapes, e.g. changing a hexagon for two trapezia. Secondly, we looked very closely at a design and attempted to describe it using as much detail as possible. Next, we had a go at copying it on our own whiteboards. we thought really carefully about how big each part of the design is. Finally, we compare our own picture to the first design and made changes to improve our own pictures. After this, we moved on to repeating patterns, we practiced extending a repeating pattern and describing that pattern in as much detail as possible. To further challenge ourselves we substituted all of the blue rhombuses for two triangles. This week Team CH have been revisiting previous learning from the Autumn term. We have been able to confidently count to five spannish. Uno = 1 Dos = 2 Tres = 3 Cuatro = 4 Cinco = 5 This week team CH were introduced to their dance topic, "seasons of the year". First we warmed ourselves up using our striva challenge of being able to skip along a line of cones and back again. Then, we played traffic lights. We spent some time talking about the changes to our breathing and highlighted that we are taking deeper breathes.
After this, we explored the four seasons of a year, spring, summer, autumn and winter. We split into four groups and shared ideas of what reminds us of these seasons. Next, we put a short movement together to represent our season and presented this to everyone. This week Team CH have set out to discover what nutrition means and why it matters in relation to a healthy lifestyle. To learn about food groups and how these are all part of a balanced diet. WE introduced words such as, Nutrition, healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, food groups, protein, carbohydrates and dairy.
