This week Team CH have become familiar with Hanukkah. Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights. The word 'Hanukkah' means 'Dedication' in Hebrew. It celebrates a miracle that happened in Jerusalem over 2,000 years ago.
Team CH listened carefully to the story and three songs that remind Mr Holmes of Hanukkah such as, "Give me oil in my lamp", "God is watching over you" and "all together as a family". These songs can be found here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/primary-school-songs-songs-for-collective-worship-and-assemblies/zmgwkmn This week in Team CH we have travelled back in time to the year 1666. We looked closely at present day London and highlighted some things we found interesting such as the bright lights, cars, busses, planes, helicopters, brick buildings and the public underground subway.
We questioned why we couldn’t compare these pictures of present-day London, to the London of the 17th century and that is because there was no way of capturing images of London in 1666 as cameras were not invented until 1816. Additionally, we looked very closely at present day London at night and thought hard about what London in the 17th century would look like at night and more specifically how people would move around, see in the dark and build their homes. Finally, we completed a cutting and sticking task to help visualise the similarities and difference of present-day London and London of the past. This week team CH have become familiar with the story of Lent.
Lent is the forty days preceding Easter in the Christian calendar. We began our session by listening to the song " Giod is watching over you " which can be found here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/assemblies-ks1-ks2-lent/zy6br2p After this we watched a short video to introduce the story of Lent. Pupils had the opportunity to talk about when Lent takes place, talking about the way Jesus was tempted by the devil while in the desert and why Christians give up things during lent. We then reflected on all the things we enjoy such as, Ipads, games, chocolate and thought hard about something we could give up to remember the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert. This week in Team CH we have been focusing on the three areas that were highlighted as weaknesses after our initial assessments. We have spent some time looking at ordinal numbers, number formation and number position on a blank number line.
In this lesson we will build on the language learnt in last week’s lesson: Los colores = Colours Rojo = Red Amarillo = Yellow Azul = Blue Verde = Green Gris = Grey PLUS: Blanco = White Violeta = Purple Naranja = Orange Marrón = Brown Negro = Black
This week Team CH have been on a virtual tour of a synagogue. We were able to locate some internal features of a synagogue such as, the sanctuary, mechitzah which is a screen that separates men and women, not all synagogue have these, some reformed synagogue allow men and women to sit together. the Ark, the ner tamid which is an oil lamp that represents god's eternal light, a menorah which holds seven candle sticks and the star of David.
After this we compared Wombwell to Jerusalem and talked about places that are special to people of the Jewish faith such as the western wall which is the only remaining part of a great Jewish temple that the Romans destroyed. This week in Team CH we have been focusing on forming lower case letters correctly in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place.
This week Team CH have been celebrating the upcoming new year with these fantastic calendar design all thanks to our amazing Mrs Fitchett.
This week Children have been investigating the similarities and difference between the Mexican town of Tocuaro, Mexico and Wombwell, Barnsley. We were able to identify the human and physical features of the village that they live and compare these with the human and physical features of the Mexican town of Tocuaro. Finally, we spent some time colouring in some mask, something that the village of Tocuaro is famous for.
