Today the children in nursery used their observational skills to hunt for minibeasts in the nature reserve on our welly walk. We learnt that they like to hide in dark, damp places so we searched under logs and stones. We found lots of worms, snails and woodlice and we also saw a bee buzzing around. We talked about how to take care of the creatures and the need to return them to where we found them.

Today we have been exploring the patterns on a butterfly's wings. We looked at lots of pictures and learnt the word "symmetrical" as we found out they are the same on both sides. The children then had a go at creating their own butterfly prints by painting patterns, folding paper and opening it out to reveal the symmetry!
This week the Shooting Stars have thoroughly enjoyed starting our new exciting theme all about growing. We have been focusing on how butterflies grow this week and have been learning about their life cycle. Our book of the week is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and the children have been excellent at joining in with reading it. We have multiple copies in our reading area and they have loved sharing the book with their friends.
Some of our provision activities so far have included designing our own butterflies using our mark making skills, hunting for minibeasts outside, exploring toy minibeasts in our small world area and creating minibeasts in the play dough. We are also expecting an exciting delivery of some live caterpillars very soon..... watch this space for our caterpillar news!! Welcome back to the Summer term in nursery! We hope you all had a lovely Easter with your families!
This week we are excited to welc0me some new children into our setting. Today they have been for visits with their parents and it was so lovely to meet them all! Over the next few days they will be beginning their full sessions with us and we are sure they will quickly become part of our team and make new friends. Look out for some photos of them enjoying their learning coming soon. |
