Today we further developed our painting skills outside by painting a large picture of one of our friends. We learnt to work together as well as develop our painting skills. Firstly, one child lay down on a large sheet of paper and another child carefully drew around their outline. Then the children painted the outline to make a picture of the child. There was lots of talk about parts of the body and colours during this activity.

At our group time today, we all had a go at bead threading. Look at the concentration on our faces as we carefully threaded our beads onto the lace!
Whilst we were engrossed in this activity, there was lots of Maths language as we talked about how many beads were on our string and compared them to our friend's. Super job Shooting Stars! The bead threading was then added to our continuous provision and lots of children chose to have a go independently. Today we developed our mark making skills as we painted on a large scale outside. The children explored painting circles, lines, letters from their names, people and zig zag patterns as well as lots more. We talked about how to hold the brush and it was a perfect opportunity for the children to build their motor skills.
Our super painting is now on display in nursery for everyone to admire! In nursery we use number rhymes to help us with our understanding of numbers and counting. This week we are focusing on the rhyme "5 little men in a flying saucer" and we will also be revisiting "5 little speckled frogs" and "5 little ducks" from the previous weeks.
Please help your child by singing the songs at home and encouraging them to show the amount on their fingers and take one away each time. Today the children were excited to go on our first welly walk of the year, We all put our wellington boots on and went exploring in the nature reserve. The children loved exploring the new area with their friends and especially enjoyed a game of hide and seek in the trees.
For our baking activity today, the children enjoyed decorating their own biscuit. This was great for their fine motor skills as they carefully spread the icing onto the biscuit and then added sprinkles to the top. I hope you enjoyed eating your creation!
The children who have returned to nursery this term have really enjoyed seeing their friends again and having the opportunity to play together. They have also been excellent role models for our new children which has been lovely to see.
Here are some photos of the older children engaged in learning together over the course of the week. We will include photos of our new starters once we have all the permissions. This week we are excited to welcome back some children who were with us in nursery last term as well as lots of new starters. We are really looking forward to meeting you all and we are sure you will all make lots of new friends.
This week we will be spending lots of quality time with the children; , settling them in, helping them make new friends and learning our routines. Look out for some photos of us learning together coming soon! This week we are basing our learning around the theme of trains and our book of the week is Magic Train Ride.
Click the link to share it with your child at home: Magic Train Ride | Barefoot Books Singalong - YouTube We are learning to join in with the repetitive phrases within this book by re-reading it lots during the week. See if your child can join in with the words and maybe they could show you the Makaton sign for train. We love baking day in nursery and today we decided to follow a recipe to make some biscuits. The children have got much more confident with baking now and are really developing their skills with mixing and rolling. Firstly a group of children helped Miss Powell to make the biscuit dough by weighing and mixing all the ingredients. Then everyone carefully rolled out their own dough and cut out their biscuit. We have made vehicle shaped biscuits to link with our theme of the week.
