This week we have based our learning around the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have acted out the story in the role play area and with our wolf puppet. We wrote an apology to Grandma from the wolf for his bad behaviour and have thought about words to describe the characters in the story. In numeracy this week we moved on to number 10 and have counted, compared and ordered with this number. We made a shopping list for Granny based on the maths story My Granny went to Market. In out classroom provision we have made traps for the wolf using straws as well as a maze for the characters from the story to walk through. We have painted the wolf and followed instructions to make flowers for Granny from Little Red Riding Hood.

This week we have been reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
We made bridges in the construction area to take the goats safely across the river. We used a variety of different materials to test if they were strong enough. We tried different ways of connecting them together to see which worked the best. We sequenced the story using pictures and retold it to our friends using story language and key phrases from the book. We also made story settings for characters so we could re-enact the story in our small world area. We used soft toys to retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and have enjoyed joining in with phrases throughout the book. We all took part in drama activities and practised using different voices and actions for the three bears and Goldilocks. We used cubes to measure the bear's chairs and counted to see how high they are. To develop our motor skills we challenged ourselves to pick up small objects within the space of a minute using tweezers. We even challenged our friends to see if we could beat them! In phonics we have been learning some tricky red words and are learning to spot these in books and around our classroom. We are continuing to learn Set 1 and 2 sounds and some of us are making great progress reading "Fred in your head" to become fluent readers! In maths we have been learning about subtraction. Firstly we began by learning the different vocabulary for takeaway and have been using the words "takeaway", "minus" and "subtract," We have also been using the words "how many are left". We used different resources to take away objects from a set number and counted them to find the answer. We were really good at making towers, taking some blocks away and counting how many were left! Next we counted out the number of blocks we need to start with from a larger group. We have all been reading subtraction number sentences and some of us have enjoyed writing them! For Feel Good Friday we chose to do some dancing! Feel Good Friday is always one of our favourite days and we enjoy keeping fit and healthy. We have been talking about how our body feels different before and after exercise, We can't wait for next time! This week we have had fun listening to the traditional story of The Gingerbread Man and using this story as a way of developing our use of story language and ability to talk about story events in our own words. The classroom provision has been enhanced with Gingerbread man related activities this week and through this we have developed our creative skills, story telling with puppets, adding to 9 and writing the dominant sounds in words. We have been coding using "Beebot" our class robot. We drew arrows to plan the route Beebot needed to follow on his track (forwards, backwards, left, right) and programmed him to follow them! We had so much fun and some of us even planned a return route home! During Welly Walk there was even a Gingerbread man hiding in the bushes for the children to find whilst they were making collections of 9 interesting objects. This week has been a busy first week back at school after the holidays. It was lovely to see everyone again. We have started our learning about Traditional stories with the Three Little Pigs. The children have listened to different versions of the story and used puppets to retell the story in their own words. They enjoyed getting into character in the role of the Big Bad Wolf. We have set the role play area up as a construction site for the Three Little Pigs with lots of opportunities for model making and creating props for story telling. On Wednesday the children went on a well walk and worked in teams to create stick houses for the little pigs. |
