This week we have been reading the story of Noah's Ark and learning all about Rainbows.
We have been experimenting with colour mixing primary colours to make all the colours of the rainbow. We have also been exploring lights and prisms to see if we can make rainbows by shining lights through th prisms.

This week we have had lots of fun listening to the story of Elmer and doing all sorts of Elmer related activities, such as making giant elephant ears, creating a large patchwork Elmer of different textures and designing patterned elephants for a parade. We also discussed the themes of friendship and kindness, which are the themes of Anti-bullying week 2021. Building on from our learning earlier in the week around Simon sock and Odd sock Day we talked about how people can be friends even if they have differences.. There have been so many important events happening lately that we have been learning about. At the beginning of the week we were learning all about Diwali - The Festival of Light. We read the story of Rama and Sita to learn how and why the celebration takes place. There were lots of exciting activities we took part in including making paper lanterns in our creative area and making clay diva lamps being really careful to mould the clay into the correct shape. At the end of the week our learning was focused on Remembrance and why we have a special day to remember the soldiers and events that happened so long ago. We all made a poppy and wore it with pride! We made some beautiful photo frames to take home and place a picture of someone who is special to us. We also talked about purple poppies and how important it is to remember the animals who helped soldiers in the war. On Welly Walk we collected lots of different shapes, sizes and colours of leaves and have begun to make a beautiful patterned fence by weaving the leaves in and out of each other. You might spot this when you walk past our nature area! We have been taking part in some mindfulness activities including smelling spices and talking about what they remind us of and have completed some lovely colouring activities. Instead of our daily mile we took part in some Yoga activities to help us keep fit and healthy and to also help relax our mind! This week we started the week with the story of Meg and Mog and talking about our half term activities and Halloween. The children enjoyed playing in our Potions Lab, looking for surprises hidden in the playdough, making colourful monster puppets and creating a small world ghost train with the train set. The children were able to practise their 'Fred talk and read the word' reading some of the words from Meg and Mog independently. They also enjoyed more Meg and Mog stories over the week. In Numeracy we practised identifying patterns, continuing repeating patterns and creating our bonfire and spooky patterns. With Bonfire night happening at the week end the children got in the mood with a virtual bonfire, creating sparkly firework pictures and writing firework sound words. |
