Over the past 2 weeks we have been finding about some different environments. First we found out about Polar regions using stories as a stimulus and learning facts about Emperor Penguins and also Polar Bears. We enjoyed creative activities making Arctic collage scenes by mixing paint and paper and using 2d shapes to make penguins.
When learning about under the Sea we shared the story Commotion in the Ocean and painted colourful sea creatures from the story and made hanging jellyfish. Children found out about their favourite Sea Creatures and shared their facts on Seesaw either by recording themselves or writing sentences about their creature. This week has also been world book day. Our chosen author was Julia Donaldson so we have enjoyed lots of stories from our author that have been about sea creatures, such as Tiddler, A snail and a Whale and Sharing a Shell. These stories are rhyming stories and have helped the Pandas learn about rhyming pairs of words and recognising rhyme in a story.

Over the past two weeks the Pandas have been listening to different versions of first the Three Little Pigs and then in week 4 The Little Red Hen. We have compared these stories with other stories. Such as Farmer Duck, with a Lazy old farmer. We have noticed similarities and differences between the stories and written sentences about story events.
We have enjoyed acting out the stories and learning story songs with actions and instruments for the Little Red Hen. We have painted pictures from the stories, made model houses, baked bread and painted hens. In maths we began our learning on number 10 and have compared the number blocks, matched objects to numbers, found ways of making 10, made up number stories to 10 and developed our understanding though stories and games. For lots of the children they have adapted amazingly well to new ways of learning at home and its been a pleasure seeing the fantastic effort that they, and their parents, have put into using Seesaw. One month into lockdown and we are proud of the Pandas and the progress they are continuing to make with their phonics thanks to the parent support in following the Read Write Inc daily lessons. You truly are a wonderful lot. Thank you x These past two weeks the children in Pandas have been getting on tremendously well with home learning on Seesaw and for some in school. As well as the daily use of Seesaw we have also started daily zoom meetings, which provide an opportunity to see all our friends and talk about the learning for the day.
Over these two weeks we have started our new topic of Traditional stories. First we had the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and had a great time acting out the story, making stick puppets and retelling the story in our own words. We sequenced the story, wrote speech bubbles and made story maps. We have also begun work around number 9 and over the 2 weeks we have ordered, compared, partitioned and counted to 9 and beyond. We have added using a numberline and with practical resources. We are now ready to move onto number 10. Over the past 2 weeks we have been learning about opposites with the help of the story Day Monkey and Night Monkey and starting preparations for Christmas by making party hats for our Christmas party on 2th December and our Christmas cards. We have continued with our Christmas theme by learning Christmas songs, making snowmen decorations for Barnsley Hospital and listening to the Christmas story. On Wednesday 9th Dec we had a special treat with a pantomime afternoon, watching Jack and the Beanstalk. Our class elf has also been causing some excitement and we have been practising writing the dominant sounds in words as we write about the activities of our cheeky elf. Over the past 2 weeks the Pandas have been learning about Elmer the elephant and about differences. This was part of our learning for anti-bullying week and we have had fun creating patch works and colour mixing. We even wore odd socks for Odd sock day and learnt about pairs and counting in 2s.
