This week the Rainbows have been having lots of fun learning about dinosaurs. We have learnt that they are extinct and that we only know about then from their fossils. Andy Day from cbeebies has provided excellent information about dinosaurs during the week with his Dinosaur Adventure programme. We have also enjoyed singing along with the Story bots and their dino themed songs. . Science week has provided lots of opportunities for the Rainbows to get investigating. This is our team poster for Science week.
This week the Rainbows have continued their learning about animals and we have looked at animals from the polar regions. We have found out all about penguins and how they live in Antarctica, south pole. We have also learnt about polar bears and how they can be found at the north pole, Arctic.
We enjoyed listening to stories such as Lost and Found and created box model habitats for animals from the polar regions. This week we began our Spring them. Amazing Animals with learning about Pets. We have set a role play area up in the classroom and the children have demonstrated that they are very caring when it comes to looking after animals and talking about what animals need to be happy. World Book Day For World book day the children dressed up as story characters and inspired by our 3 Aliens in Underpants who visited the class that day the children made flying saucers, sorted different patterned pants and made dough alien creatures as well as book marks. The children were brilliant at working together to help make their flying saucers. Thank you to all who donated to our fundraiser for The Tiny Hearts Appeal and Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. So for we have raised over £50 through the sale of salt dough hearts.
Over the next weeks we will be thinking of some more fundraising activities and learning about the good work of these charities. Look at the fantastic wands, shoes and ball gowns we have designed for Cinderella. We had to do careful measuring to make sure the shoes fitted. On Tuesday 1st February we celebrated the Chinese New Year in School. in Team CW we watched some dragon dancing and got creative making some dragon puppets and paintings of dragons. We also made 2d shape dragons and practised writing numbers in Mandarin on chalk boards and with pens. We listened to the story of the Chinese new year animals and found out that 2022 is the year of the tiger. We watched some information about how the Chinese New Year is celebrated by families and set up our roleplay area as a Chinese restaurant and practised picking up some of our playfood spring roles, prawn toast, noodles and rice with chopsticks. This week we have been listening to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and using this as a theme for our learning. We have used story language to retell the story and props to act out the story. We made book covers for our own beanstalk stories as well as making character speech bubbles.
In Maths we have continued with learning about Number 10. We have found different ways of partitioning numbers to 10 using practical resources; such as beans and measured giant feet. This week we have based our learning around the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have acted out the story in the role play area and with our wolf puppet. We wrote an apology to Grandma from the wolf for his bad behaviour and have thought about words to describe the characters in the story. In numeracy this week we moved on to number 10 and have counted, compared and ordered with this number. We made a shopping list for Granny based on the maths story My Granny went to Market. In out classroom provision we have made traps for the wolf using straws as well as a maze for the characters from the story to walk through. We have painted the wolf and followed instructions to make flowers for Granny from Little Red Riding Hood. |
