Can you make a list of the different animals you see on a farm? Use your phonics to sound out the words as you write them.

Good Morning Remarkable Robins! I hope you are looking forward to learning at home and you have your pack ready! There are lots of activity ideas in your pack for reading, writing, maths and topic work. Here are some activities you could choose if you would prefer to do one of these.
Phonics - Please watch the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc. video on YouTube. There are sound cards and words in your home learning packs to use to support this. Try and do some phonics everyday and use the resources in your learning packs. Literacy - Draw a picture of your family in your pink book in your pack and label each person. Write a sentence using your phonics sounds and Fred Talk to tell me who lives in your house. You can tell me a little about what you like to do together. Say the sentence first, over and over until you can repeat it perfectly. Don't forget to pinch your fingers every time you say a word in your sentence so you remember what comes next. Maths - Use your number square to count to 20 and beyond. You can practise counting in 1's. 2's and 10's. Throughout this week practise paying for a snack at home. You may like to make some price tags for some of your choices! You could draw coins on paper and write the value on them. The steps below are a progression of your child's learning so you may not achieve them all or you may find that you can start on step one or two. Step 1 - count in 1p pieces to pay for an item (up to 10p) Step 2 - buy more than one item for snack (finding a total) Step 3 - introduce the 2p coin and make an even amount in 2p pieces. Step 4 - introduce the 10p coin and pay for items in 10p pieces, Step 5- use a variety of 1/2/10p coins to pay for items together. Reinforce learning through the rest of the week and do not feel you have to achieve all of the above. You may focus on just one step that is appropriate to your child. Achieving step 1 is BRILLIANT! Everybody has different experiences of coins and learning how to use it can be tricky. Enjoy your learning! In preparation for the school closure, please find below information relating to home learning programmes. You will find some details regarding the core subjects (Reading, Writing, Maths) and how these can be accessed each day. In addition to this, you will find some information regarding other curriculum areas as well as a suggested timetable to structure your child's daily learning. These activities have been carefully resourced to ensure that learning can continue as much as possible whilst the school remains closed. Please note that these materials are exactly the same materials as those that will be sent home with the children tomorrow.
![]() This week we have been learning about rhyme through our class story of Commotion in the Ocean and learning about sea creatures. We have enjoyed looking using 'google' to find videos of our favourite sea creatures from seahorses, jellyfish, hammerhead sharks and the giant octopus. Our class had an unusual creature in the form of Ollie the Octopus and his amazing textured tentacles. The children had to use their senses to feel from different textured materials to see if they could match a material to Ollie's tentacles and then describe the different materials by their properties. The Children were brilliant at this. However Olllie was less amazing and need ed his balloon head replacing at least 3 times as the children watched with amusement as his head got smaller and smaller sparking some scientific discussion about what exactly was happening to his head. Our new theme for learning this half term is Amazing Animals and each week we will be focusing on a different type of animal. This week we have begun our explorations with wild animals and the books 'Dear Zoo' and 'Rumble in the Jungle.' The children have produced some fantastic writing as they have written their own page for a Dear Zoo book, selecting their own animal to include. They have used their phonics knowledge to spell the words and have written some amazing sentences!
In our Maths learning the children have explored different patterns linked to animal prints. We have also found out about doubling numbers and have been trying to solve problems using doubles. Wow! We are so proud of the children in the Robins this week as there has been so much independent writing! The children have been inspired to write independently in our continuous provision, applying the skills they have learnt during our Read Write Inc sessions.
Some children have chosen to draw pictures and write labels to match, some have written sentences about animals linked to our weekly theme and some have even written their own stories! As we have so many budding authors, we have taught the children how to make their own books to extend their interests. We cannot wait to see what writing can be produced next week! Today we celebrated the end of our stories topic with an exciting day of bedtime stories. All the children and staff came to school in their pyjamas and we enjoyed snuggling up and reading our favourite stories by torch light. Miss McGinnes' favourite story is Tiddler by Julia Donaldson and she read it to the class as well as to Miss Clementson's class. At the end of the day, we snuggled up and enjoyed The Gruffalo's Child while eating cookies and drinking hot chocolate.
We love stories in Reception! What is your favourite book? Today we have had some very exciting visitors from the Escafeld Medieval Society. They came to help us with our learning about the story of Robin Hood. We had a visit from The Sheriff of Nottingham and Little John among others.
The children got to experience and hold some real weapons including different sized swords, axes, a mace, chain mail and shields. They were amazed to find out how heavy they are. The Sheriff of Nottingham told us about how he would have used them including using his sword to eat his food! We then had a go at archery in the hall using real bow and arrows! The children tried so hard to hit the target and enjoyed cheering each other on, Finally we were able to watch a battle between the characters. We had such an exciting day and learnt so much about life long ago! It was very different from our life today. |
