This year we have been learning about Sikhism. Sikhism is around 500 years old and began with Guru Nanak. This week we considered the 3 values of Sikh practice and what they mean; pray, work, give.

This week we completed and presented our newspaper reports about the yellow aeroplane sighting in our class book, Private Peaceful.
American cartoonist, Rube Goldberg, designed silly contraptions which used an indirect and overly-complicated chain reaction to perform a very simple task. For our science enquiry, we built some out of everyday objects. We didn't have a task to achieve at the end; we just aimed for a chain of 4 reactions using different forces such as push, accelerate, drop, roll, etc. We managed to catch a few on film working all the way through, and some clips for the bloopers reel.
Sunday 22nd January marks the year of the rabbit. In Team HG we already know about the Chinese zodiac and the animal of the year in which we were born. This week we looked at the 15 days of preparation, celebration and worship. We watched a video of last year's dazzling dragon dance performance (in London) and we made origami dragon heads as a keepsake.
HG's artist of the term is Antoni Gaudi. Miss Gliniecki knew little about this amazing architect before he was our focus but Team HG could tell me some interesting facts before we even started our research. His work is extraordinary and we are really inspired by his art and by his story.
We began our science topic this week. We made fact-files on the 7 characteristics of living things using MRS GREN to help remember them.
This week we used partitioning to multiply a two-digit number by a single-digit number and progressed to using short multiplication. Team HG are superb at both!
Our class book for this half term is Private Peaceful. We will be writing newspaper reports about the yellow aeroplane sighting; this week we have planned the headline, the quote and the Who What When Where Why.
