Team LF created their own sketches based on the work by Lucien Rudaux. The children were asked to imagine that they were stood on a planet, looking out into space. They then had to sketch what they 'saw'. Maths
For the past two weeks, we have worked hard to compare unit fractions and non-unit fractions (whose denominators are the same and whose denominators are different). We came up with three different rules for this. We have recognised that when comparing and ordering non-unit fractions whose denominators are different, we need to find an equivalent fraction to help us. Literacy We have begun our new focus for writing - narrative. We are basing this on Chapter 5 of 'Who Let the Gods Out'. Our own writing will feature a constellation of our choice, who will 'land' in a new setting and meet another animal/creature from that setting. We have identified the text features for this style of writing and we have started to work on the individual elements (expanded noun phrases, relative clauses, parenthesis). Our aim this lesson was to name the planets and be able to give key facts about each one. We looked at information cards and used our research skills to find further information on the internet.
During our Spanish lessons, we have been learning the names for the planets and sun. We have realised that a lot of the names share a similar pronunciation and spelling to English. We have used our knowledge to complete activities related to this learning, and we will continue to revisit this over the rest of the half term.
To begin our topic on Space, Team LF have looked at various pieces of evidence to determine whether the Sun, Moon and Earth are spherical or flat. The children had to decide which piece of evidence they believed to be the most important and explain the reason for their choice.
