For the past two weeks, we have worked hard to compare unit fractions and non-unit fractions (whose denominators are the same and whose denominators are different). We came up with three different rules for this. We have recognised that when comparing and ordering non-unit fractions whose denominators are different, we need to find an equivalent fraction to help us. Literacy We have begun our new focus for writing - narrative. We are basing this on Chapter 5 of 'Who Let the Gods Out'. Our own writing will feature a constellation of our choice, who will 'land' in a new setting and meet another animal/creature from that setting. We have identified the text features for this style of writing and we have started to work on the individual elements (expanded noun phrases, relative clauses, parenthesis).

Our aim this lesson was to name the planets and be able to give key facts about each one. We looked at information cards and used our research skills to find further information on the internet.
During our Spanish lessons, we have been learning the names for the planets and sun. We have realised that a lot of the names share a similar pronunciation and spelling to English. We have used our knowledge to complete activities related to this learning, and we will continue to revisit this over the rest of the half term.
To begin our topic on Space, Team LF have looked at various pieces of evidence to determine whether the Sun, Moon and Earth are spherical or flat. The children had to decide which piece of evidence they believed to be the most important and explain the reason for their choice.

The past couple of weeks we have began our unit on fractions. We spent some time looking at what a fraction is and how we can represent fractions visually. We have then compared unit fractions and non-unit fractions (when the denominator is the same). Literacy We have focussed on Blackout Poetry the past couple of weeks. We have analysed the text features and then used a piece of text to create our own. Surprisingly, it was a lot more difficult that we thought it would be to select language that made sense when read as a poem. As a recap, we quickly revisited Ramadan, which led onto our discussion about the ways in which Eid is celebrated amongst the Muslim community. These celebrations include:
The children then represented their learning with images and labels to show the ways that this festival is celebrated. Today, the children in Team LF have had a wonderful afternoon visiting the Wombwell Library. For some children it was their first visit, and for others they had been many times before. The children were well-mannered and polite and an absolute delight to take into the village. Upon arrival, the children were introduced to the children's section of the library and were asked to complete a little task at finding the various sections for example, non-fiction, board books and even the graphic section. The librarians read the children a fiction story, before they were invited to have a wander around the library themselves. The children were captured enjoying reading different stories, whether together with their friends, sharing the tales, or relaxing on a cushion or the sofa, embroiled in an adventure. Thank you to Wombwell Library for inviting us today. |
