Researching in Science allows children to use secondary sources of evidence, often when the question raised is impossible or unsafe for children to answer first hand. It enables children to compare and evaluate the information they gather from a range of sources and see that questions don’t always have definite answers.
Using our research skills, we used textbooks and the internet (a range of search engines to link with our Computing knowledge) to find out how some animals are adapted to their environment in order to survive. We focussed on three main habitats (the Arctic, Mojave Desert and Amazon Rainforest) in to find out about the adaptations of the polar bear, camel and orangutan. Along the way, there were lots of surprises, such as a camel having heat-resistant pads on it's knees and elbows so that it doesn't burn itself on the sand.
