We will be hosting a WW1 day for the Year 4 and Year 5 children on Monday 5th February 2024.
During the day, the children will engage in a range of activities linked to the war, building on our history lessons so far this half term. To ensure we make the most of the day and the children can fully engage in the experience, we invite all the children to come to school for the day dressed up ready for war. The children have the opportunity (should they wish to) to come dressed as a soldier, a nurse, a child or any costume fitting into a WW1 theme. To link with our PE curriculum, as part of the day, we are going to be running a young soldiers training camp for the children. This will be delivered by Mr Fidment. This will take place on the school’s field, in the nature reserve or school hall, depending on the weather. Please could you ensure that your child brings a set of appropriate clothes and sensible shoes, which allow your child to move freely. As we will be outside for the majority of the activities (if the weather allows us), we recommend that your child brings a jumper and a coat also. Your child will need to arrive in their WW1 themed outfit (should they wish to take part in this) and they will then be given time to change into their appropriate clothing when it is time for their experience with Mr Fidment. Due to the current weather conditions, please be aware that the children’s clothing may get muddy and therefore it would be appropriate to send clothes/shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
