Maths
In Maths this week, the children have been developing further their understanding of multiplication and division. We have looked further into the vocabulary used in multiplication and division equations and the children are now using this language when speaking about their learning. In addition, we have been learning how our knowledge of addition and subtraction and the partitioning of numbers, can also help is when calculating multiplication and division problems. The children have been using manipulatives to help them including arrays. Literacy During our Literacy learning, the children have been looking at the features of a non-chronological report. The purpose for their learning is to write their own non-chronological report for a figure from our class text, 'Herstory'. Everyone in lcass has chosen their own female influential figure to write their own fact-file about them. The children have thoroughly enjoyed our class text, and have enjoyed learning about the many different historical, influential figures. The children have been developing their skills in writing in third person, as well as unpicking the features of an example of a non-chronological report.

In school this week, we have been celebrating Shakespeare Week. The children in Team DB have worked increduously hard at creating their own Shakespeare Poem, based upon the Witches' Spell, from Macbeth. The children unpicked the poem looking for specific detail that would help them when it came to writing their own poems. They then planned their poem, thinking about the most hideous things that they could, and then wrote it out neatly, using their best handwriting.
In reading, the children read an extract from Macbeth, in particular the three witches' scene, and used their retrieval skills to scan and skim for information, locating specific points to answer questions about the text. Take a look at their hard work below. At Park Street today, the children throuhout school have been celebrating Red Nose Day. The children were invited to wear red for the day and our choice of activity from the School Council, was to decorate biscuits during our Incredible Us! session in the afternoon. Mis Baxter went shopping last night and came back armed with biscuits, icing, red food clouring and sprinkles! The children have enjoyed decorating, and the eating, their own Red Nose Day biscuits. O This week in Science, the children in Team DB have been investigating how the digestive system works by experimenting how the body makes poo! The children could easily describe how the process of digestion begins in the mouth, continuing all way through the digestive system until it comes out of the anus, at the other end! We all had great fun using everyday objects to act as each function of the digestive system, even to Mrs Bamforth having to use her biscuits! Look at the photos below of the how the human body successfully makes poo by digesting the food that we eat. Today, Years 4 and 5 were very lucky to have a visitor in school, to teach us about science. The scientist that came taught the children about different aspects of science, but mainly forces. Some children were lucky to be chosen to addidtant scientists and to help out with the various experiments and investigations. She reminded the children how we needed to stay safe when completing scientific investigations, but above all, how science learning can be fun. Both year groups enjoyed the experience and were very enthusiastic to each of the investigations presented to them, especially when mintoes were added to fizzy pop! KABOOM! During our Incredible Us! session this week, the children have been learning how to make their own corner book marks. With the guidance of Mrs Akyel, Team DB have learned how to create their own origami, corner book mark. The children enjoyed making them, that they didn't stop at one, and started to create more to share with friends and adults throughout school.
