Maths Wow! We have had a busy few weeks in Team DB with Christmas approaching. In our maths learning, the children have been learning more about money, building on their previous learning about money notation and decimals. The children have been developing an understanding about the place value of money and applying their addition and subtraction skills and knowledge into their learning. The children have also been applying this knowledge into real life situations, to enable them to solve mathematical reasoning problems. Well done Team DB! Literacy The children of Team DB have been super busy these last few weeks, but have continued to develop their skills and understanding about the various features of a story setting. Over the last few weeks the children have been busy understanding about emotive language, in particular looking at the five senses and applying this into their writing. The children have been ensuring that their writing has included the different features so as to try and create their own story setting for the text, 'The Viewer'.

In DT, Team DB have been using their science knowledge about Electricity to light up their European landmarks that they have created in Art. The children had to create a circuit that employed a bulb, battery and switch circuit, so as to enable electricity to provide light in their structure. The children had to ensure that their landmark structure was designed effectively, strengthening and reinforcing their landmarks where necessary. They constructed a simple circuit that could be switched on and off. The children remembered their skills and knowledge form their Electricity science topic, and used wires, battery pack, switches and a bulb to create their circuit. The children worked well together as a team to put their circuits inside or around the outside to light up their landmarks and they did a fabulous job.
Our European topic is coming to an end, as we quickly approach the Christmas holidays. The children have throughly enjoyed learning about this vast continent, especially discovering the countries that are part of Europe.
In Team DB, the children have been learning about traditional foods from various countries in Europe, and what better way to experience this, than to take part in a food tasting session! The children had the opportunity to taste traditional foods from Italy, Turkey, Spain, France, and Belgium. A huge thank you to Mr Akyel, who created a traditional Turkey dish that we were able to share with all the staff at Park Street! Check out our learning journey, as the children experienced the different flavours presented to them. Here at Park Street, the children in Team DB have worked increduously hard for their Christmas concert. The children have practised songs, their ukuleles, guitars and most of all the 12 Days of Christmas for their performance. We have had so much fun learning the sequence for the 12 Days of Christmas and learning the actions, remembering where we need to be, and even us adults forgetting which number we are on or how many Lords are Leaping!
We performed for our adults during the week, and we were asked to perform again to the school. Thank you Team DB you were and are amazing! We hope that everyone enjoyed our Christmas performance. This week in our science learning, the children in Team DB have benn leanring about electrical circuits. What better way to do this then to actually use all of the components to create a working circuit! The children had wires, bulbs, batteries and crocodile clips to build their own working electrical circuit. They worked hard as part of a team, looking at any errors they had made when the bulb didn't light up, even so far as to testing batteries and bulbs to ensure that they worked. They all worked hard and recorded their circuits into their learning books.
Continuing with our Christmas theme for our Incredible Us! session, the children in Team DB have been making their very own snowmen. They had to consider carefully, where to place their arms and legs, and how they were going to attach the marshmallows together. The children were given three marshmallows, melted chocoloate, chocolate matchsticks and smarties. They were very creative, and even though the chocolate matchsticks were melting, the children had a fabulous time making them, especially when they got to eat them! Yum, yum!
Literacy
Over the last few weeks, the children in Team DB have been very busy in their writing sessions. Every day the children are working very hard in hteir handwriting sessions as everyone is trying to aiming to achieve their pen licence! In our writing, the children are preparing to write their own setting description and have been learning about what makes an effective setting description to engage the reader. We have been learning about metaphors and similes and how we can use these in our writing to create comparisons between two things. Maths In our maths learning, Team DB have been continuing developing their addition and subtraction skills, moving onto numbers larger than 10,000! They have had to develop their understanding about which digit belongs in which place value column and ensure that they present their own mathematical skills correctly, so as not to make any errors when calculating their problems. The children have also been using these skills in reasoning problems, recognising the operation required to solve the problem. R.E. - Sikhism In R.E., Team DB are continuing developing their knowledge and understanding about the religion Sikhism. We have been looking at Special Places and how Sikhs will worship in a Gurdwara. The children have compared this to other religious places of worship, looking at the similarities and differences with Christianity places of worship and Islamic special places. In our Incredible Us! session, the children worked hard with Mrs Akyel to create their own wooly Christmas Trees. They had to use their design and creativity skills to wrap a card Christmas tree with wool, and then decorate it using pom poms. Team DB had great fun and thoroughly enjoyed making their own wooly Christmas trees!
