HUGE THANKS to all the parents that joined Team LL and Team AF for our creative writing workshop. The children really enjoyed their challenge of creating a persuasive advert to try and encourage more visitors to the nature reserve. It was lovely for the children to work alongside their adults.
We have also been working hard to build our grammar knowledge about phrases, clauses, conjunctions and adverbials. In maths we are continuing to develop our calculation skills when it comes to fractions. We have been using manipulatives to help grasp these tricky concepts and then applying this to our arithmetic work.

PROBLEM SOLVING - is this terms scientific enquiry focus and Year 6 became detectives trying to get to the bottom of what exactly had happened at the hedgehog crime scence. Applying lots of problem solving skills, asking what if.. questions and using evidence to make predictions and draw conclusions. This term in our Spanish lessons we are learning about school. Currently we are learning the names for a variety of school subjects and learning how to discuss our likes and dislikes. We are also applying our knowledge of Spanish determiners.
Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the Buddhist religion. We have looked at why a range of words are special and considered some though provoking proverbs and quotes form key individuals such as the Dali Lama. We have also learnt about the 8 fold path and dharma. We also joined in with the whole school focus during Chinese/Lunar new year. We reflected on how celebrations for the festivals could promote community cohesion. As a year group we actively engaged in an act of kindness to promote community cohesion by creating birthday cards for Joan. Poor Joan is a resident at a local carehome who due to a Covid lockdown was unable to receive visitors on her 102nd birthday. Luckily our cards cheered her up on her special day.
Since returning from the Christmas break Team LL and Team AF have completed a range of activities. We have enjoyed our weekly Incredible Us session. We have also completed some important lessons around the importance of staying safe online. We have explored issues around peer pressure and the importance of a positive body image.
Team LL and AF have been exploring the colours and style of Ancient Egyptian Art. We have been experimenting with water colours made up of Egyptian symbols. We have also combined mixed media of photographs and watercolours to experiment with profile art combining modern photos of us with traditional Egyptian style headwear and colour scheme.
This half term we have moved on from the genre of hip hop to the jazz. We have been listening to and appraising several pieces of jazz. Today we discussed a piece by Jesper Lindfaard called Speaking My Piece. We have also been practising our glockenspiel skills whilst rehearsing a piece inspired by the work of Burt Bacharach called Bacharach Anorak. We are developing skills of improvisation too.
It was fantastic to welcome the children back after Christmas. Great to see such fantastic attitudes to learning. In literacy we have been working hard to develop our grammar knowledge of complex expanded noun phrases and how to use semi colons and colons accurately. We have been completing our fantastic and very informative non-chronological reports on natural disasters. Everything you could wish to know about a wide range of phenomena including: earthquakes, volcanoes and hurricanes.
In maths we have been getting to grips with those tricky fractions. We have been using the language of integers, numerators, denominators, equivalent, lowest common multiple, highest common factor and lowest common denominator. |
