On Wednesday 22nd February Team LL and AF visited an Exhibition in Experience Barnsley. Joann Fletcher (Barnsley lass) who is a world famous Egyptologist worked with the museum staff to develop an exhibition showcasing some artefacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun. As well as finding out about the ground-breaking work of Joann we also learnt more about Howard Carter’s amazing discovery of the tomb.
We also learnt about Ernest Jones (also from Barnsley). We discovered years before the find he had stumbled across the name Tutankhamun whilst carrying out archaeological work in Egypt. He shared this information with Howard Carter and it is widely thought that this was the spark that ignited the search for the tomb. Children had an amazing day exploring the artefacts. We also enjoyed a workshop where we made amulets, uncovered artefacts, played senet and had a go at creating artwork and hieroglyphics on papyrus. A fab day had by all.

On Wednesday 22nd February Team LL were lucky enough to visit The Cooper Gallery. The temporary exhibition room was devoted to the work of Henry Moore. We enjoyed looking at examples of Moore’s sculptures but also enjoyed some of his other work. We looked at drawings, sketches and paintings. Henry Moore used a range of techniques and materials including: pencil, ink, charcoal, wax and paint. We also enjoyed exploring Henry’s print work. We enjoyed looking at a range of his prints depicting animals.
As well as the work of Henry Moore we enjoyed exploring the two permanent collections Fox and Cooper. There were many different styles of painting including: landscapes and portraits. The collections cover a lot of different art movements including: impressionist, abstract, modern, expressionism and romantic to name but a few. We enjoyed sharing our thoughts and opinions about the art on display Huge congratulation to Iceburg and Whirlpool group for tackling all the challenges that Robinwood had to offer. You showed bravery and skill on the zipline, giant swing and in your canoes. It was amazing to see you shooting up the climbing wall and working as a team to tackle the pesky squirrels during the nightline challenge. We were proud of the resilience you showed in solving the puzzles and challenges in knight's quest and when escaping the dungeon. You could not have done any of it without working together as a team and supporting one another. Well done to each and everyone one of you for working hard to face your fears and to reach your targets.
