Over the past few day, the children in Year 6 have been working on their DT project. They have been set a challenge to make an early warning system to alert people to an earthquake. Each project had to include a circuit, the use of a switch and be able to be used in a house. Here are some examples of the learning:

Year 6s well done on your fabulous Christmas performance: your poetry, singing, playing, and performing were all superb. Well done everyone. Your hard work during rehearsals really paid off.
Well done to Ben, Daisy and James our school's winners for the local MPs Christmas card competition. It was also great for the children to meet Stephanie Peacock one of our local MPs, who awarded the certificates. The children also had opportunity to find out about the job of an MP. As part of our work on natural disasters the children in Year 6 researched the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. They explored historical evidence uncovered by archaeologists in Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as translated letters from Pliny who wrote at the time. Children formulated opinions about what impact the volcanic eruption had based on the sources presented and drawing on their new knowledge of volcanoes.
During literacy we have also revisited the biography of Guy Fawkes and explored the build up, context and legacy of the Gunpowder Plot. Children built on their existing knowledge of Guy Fawkes to explore concepts of religion, politics and related elements of social history. This half term our science enquiry focus has been to use secondary sources to research. We applied our research skills by looking at a range of books, articles, leaflets and websites to research nutrition, food groups and why our bodies need a balanced diet. The knowledge we gathered has supported our learning in science, PSCHE and PE.
