What a busy week its been in Team AC! Literacy - this week we have written a recount of the story 'Ratty's Big Adventure' which is a book we have read all about a giant rat who lives in a volcano in Papua New Guinea. He wants to explore life outside the volcano but soon discovers its not quite the adventure he hoped for. We looked at what the features were for recount writing and made our own checklist to make sure we were checking our work carefully. The children worked very hard with their writing and will be presenting their work to each other so they can practise their oracy skills too. Maths - we have been looking at the relationships between different times tables and how we can use one timetable to help us work out another for example the 2 x table can help us work out our four times table. We have looked at using the correct vocabulary to help us with our understanding. Geography - this term we have been finding out all about rivers and mountains. We have started by looking the water cycle and learnt amazing facts about how the water cycle works and the fact that water that is on earth today is the same water that was around millions of years ago!! This week we have started to look at the different stages of a river and what the different features are called and how they are formed. We even made ourselves in to a human river to explore these different features. RE - This term we have been learning about community cohesion and how we can all help each other in our community. The children learnt that to do this we need to understand and appreciate different views and different faiths. We have learnt about special words, special books, special places and special times and what they mean to different groups of people. We have found out that Jewish people go to a Synagogue and learn from a special text called a Torah. They have special ceremonies at different times of the week, particularly Shabbat which is their holy time. They also prepare for ceremonies when they become young adults called 'Bar Mitzvah if you are a boy and Bat Mitzvah' if you are a girl. Team AC had fun looking at the artefacts and even trying some of them on as well as learning the correct vocabulary for them.
