Today we had a focused activity of writing our names to go inside our Easter cards. The children used their name cards and tried to carefully copy each letter using words: up, down, round, across to help them. They also practised holding their pen in the tripod grip.

Today the children in nursery were excited to come dressed in red to raise money for Red Nose Day. We spoke about raising money to help people who are not as lucky as we are and we sang a red nose day song together. We also talked about making each other laugh and we told some jokes which was great for developing our oracy skills. Here are the morning children having fun telling jokes together: We also went on a red nose hunt around our classroom. Each nose had a different facial expression on it and we talked about how we thought each face was feeling: happy, sad, worried, angry, shocked etc. We had a challenge to find all the different facial expressions on our chart and we worked really well as a team too. The 30 hours children were surprised to find that after dinner time, the noses had been moved around! Lots of our provision activities were red themed too. We enjoyed exploring red water, creating red collage pictures and designing our own red noses. We also helped to raise more money by bringing in buns and buying them too! The children enjoyed eating them as a special treat at snack time!
This week we have begun creating our very own Easter bags in the hope that the Easter bunny will pay us a visit!
We used sponge dabbers and different coloured paint to print patterns onto our card. Our focused words in this activity were: print, press, push and dab. We also used our mark making skills to decorate our handle using different patterns. Today we invited one adult per child into nursery to join in our learning and have a go at some different Easter crafts. Some of our activities included:
-decorating Easter eggs with pastel coloured paints and cotton buds -using collage materials to create our own fancy Easter eggs -mark making and adding stickers to eggs in the writing area -exploring chocolate dough and Easter themed cutters. The children also loved showing their special adults their favourite areas within our continuous provision. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us- I know the children loved it! This week our Amazing Animals theme has moved onto learning about animals which live on a farm. Our book of the week is Farmer Duck and we are learning to join in with the repeated phrases. We have also learnt lots of Makaton signs for the different farm animals.
In our group time, we have learnt the names of the baby farm animals and we have been matching up the adults and babies. We have focused on horse and foal. pig and piglet, cow and calf, sheep and lamb, goat and kid, hen and chick and duck and duckling. Here are some photos of us engaging in our continuous provision so far this week: This morning on our welly walk, we focused on the signs of Spring. We noticed that things were changing in the nature reserve and spotted lots of new growth! We noticed daffodils, crocuses, snowdrops, blossom on the trees and also new leaves starting to grow. We will keep looking over the coming weeks to see if we can spot any more changes.
