The nursery team would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and we hope you have a wonderful time making memories with your families.
The first term in nursery has flown by and it has been wonderful to see the children make friends and learn and play together. We will look forward to seeing you all on Monday 8th January for the start of our new learning journey- Magical Storyland.

Today we have been making reindeer food to take home and sprinkle on Christmas eve. The children used their fine motor skills to carefully spoon and stir the oats and mix with glitter. They closed their eyes and made a Christmas wish before carefully spooning it into their bag.
The children who access 30 hours in our nursery are all ready for our Christmas party this afternoon in their special Christmas clothes! This morning they have made paper chains to decorate our classroom for the party. They learned to carefully add glue to the end of the strip and then use their fine motor skills to wrap the strips around each other. There was lots of skill involved in this but the children did a great job!
All the nursery children came together for one big Christmas party this afternoon. They were so excited and they had so much fun!
We did lots of dancing as well as playing musical statues, musical bumps and pass the parcel. The children were amazing at pass the parcel, taking turns to pass it around and cheering for their friends when they won! We also had a lovely party picnic together. Finally, we had a special delivery from Santa. The children were amazed to find out that they are all on the good list and they all received a Christmas present! This week we have loved being Scientists exploring ice in our water tray. We discovered that our cheeky elf had frozen some of our toys inside the ice and we investigated how to get them out. The children loved feeling the ice in their hands and there was such a lot of lovely language and talk. The children used words such as "icy, freezing, cold, frozen, wet and slippy" to describe the ice. They also noticed that after a while it began to melt in the warm classroom. At the end of the day, the children had the opportunity to fill some containers with water and put them in the freezer. We are hoping they will have turned into ice by the morning!
Today we enjoyed sharing the story of The Polar Express at group time. In our provision, we have added a train track and the children have loved working together to build different tracks. There has been lots of mathematical learning and problem solving as they explored how the track pieces fit together and we have used the words curved, straight, long, short and round to describe the pieces and the track.
Over the last few weeks, we have been working hard on creating our Christmas cards for our families. The children have been creative in learning to stick different materials together to make their Christmas tree and have all written their names inside them too. Here are just a few photos of us in action:
Over the last few weeks, the children have been working extremely hard to learn lots of songs, actions and words ready for our nursery nativity performance and today was the day we performed to our audience. The children loved dressing up and they were all superstars and so brave to stand up and act, sing, dance and speak in front of an audience. We are very proud of them all- well done Shooting Stars!
Unfortunately, the staff were all busy with the children so we didn't get to take any photos. I am sure parents have lots though! We hope you all enjoyed watching and are now well and truly in the Christmas spirit! |
